A few months ago there was a short discussion about taking 500 and greater calibers to Africa. Can't now remember if it was the US or African countries, who could have restrictions on large calibers. I guess the ATF has caliber limits too. Am going on a hunt this summer, but have limited my rifles to a 450 and 500. I could have taken something larger, but felt I didn't have the time to sort all the facts out, but wanted to sort this out for next time. Hunters have reported taking 577, 600, 700 cal magazine and doubles over there with no apparent problem, but I thought it may be a case of unenforced restrictions, eg., if they want to stop you, they can. Someone did bring up registered calibers with ATF??? Is this a problem or a lot of smoke?? Dak

Technically it is against the law to take any firearm larger than .50 caliber out of the country (without a permit). Practically speaking, I have never heard of the law being enforced. Regards, Terry Msasi haogopi mwiba [A hunter is not afraid of thorns]
