Who has hunted with him and does anyone know about this particular camp? I couldn't find much info in hunt reports. Any info appreciated. I'm thinking of booking a lion hunt for next August. Best regards, D. Nelson

Harpreet is a true professional and runs a very slick operation You will not be disappointed Very experienced in Buffalo and Lion. He operates in the Selous, earlier it was Rungwa Safaris, I dont know about Mpera.

SWAMBO, At this time I have some reservatios about anyone booking a lion and particularly in Tanzania where they have taken such a hard line on this six year old thing. I can book for Harpreet but the price and low success rate plus the current nebulous situation surrounding future lion imports makes me uncomfortable. Just my 2 cents Mark MARK H. Mark, Your honesty in reading the lion situation in Tanzania is greatly appreciated. I have been hunting lion for ten years in Tanzania, and only managed to shoot one.

I don't want anyone to misunderstand. I think Tanzania is a great safari destination and I really enjoyed my one long safari there. Personally I think if you can afford it everyone should hunt Masailand in the best areas and try for all the unique species there. There's nothing quite like it and the expereince with the Masai etc is wondeful. As for other more common species I think anyone is better off pusueing them where they are less expensive unless cost is of no concern. Mark MARK H. I've hunted with Harpreet on several occassions. He runs an absolutely first class operation and his Massailand areas and camps are first rate, basically luxurious by most standards. Yes, the 6 year old rule limits options; yes, whichever PH you hunt with in Tanz will be conservative in this regards; and yes, Tanz is more expensive than most other places, but in my estimation, well worth it. Having said that you will have a fabulous hunt with Harpreet.

Thanks, Mark & Skeetshot. Although Lion would be top on the list, I know it is risky and I won't be upset. I have hunted in Tanzania on 2 other occasions but with another outfitter. It is indeed well worth the expense! Best regards, Darin

I have hunted in 2 camps that were owned/managed by Harpreet Brar in Tanzania (I booked through Adam Clements and his staff ran the hunting I did.) I don't know about Mpera, but I do know that Harpreet has some excellent areas and his camps were well managed and luxurious. He also answered emails that I had with questions promptly and seemed to be a very responsive man. I have heard rumors that his camps now are allowing you to only shoot one over 40" buffalo (to try and improve the trophy quality.) which is not an issue for the Lion hunting.

My 2 cents. Tanzania is out of touch for most of us regular guys. Plain and simple. Too expensive. Only for Neer do well guys. No offense meant against guys with more means then others. There is so many great hunts that are reasonably priced in other countries even for all DG. Seems like Tanzania with their prices skyrocketing is overblown destination and quite the turn off in my book. D - I think you'll find a first class operation with Harpreet, he's a good guy too. Secondly, I think most will see that the 6-yr old thing in TZ is likely to have some changes by next year. Regardless, area/area/area is the best decision you can make in TZ, if getting a lion is your top priority. Lastly, the most likely scenario with the Lion - for the reasonable future will be up-graded to the same status as the Leopard. Thus still importable! With that said, would there be a couple other blocks that might be better for big lion success - yep. But certainly one cannot go wrong with a hunt operated by Harpreet. Good luck to you!!!

Very true Todd. Probably arranged through the same farm he shot his lion with in South Africa. I bet he would also know the date and time of birth of that cat

Mpera is the name of an area within Rungwa GR. Harpreet operates in Rungwa Mpera hunting block which is allocated to Miombo safaris. The latter originally owned by Michel Mantheakis and subsequently bought by Harpreet - possibly in partnership with Akram Aziz of Kilombero North Safaris (At least he was a former partner with MM in Miombo). Difficult to keep up with all the transactions taking place since the new block allocation. Rungwa Mpera was a good block during MM days. "...Them, they were Giants!" J.A. I have hunter with Harpreet on 8 different occasions since 2006. I have hunter Mpera camp in his Wembry concession in the greater Rungwa Area. If yu are hunting with Harpreet you are hunting with one of the best professional hunters in all of Africa. The area mis very nice for Buffalo Roan Sable oribi and most all the other plains game, although not known for Elephant I have seen them there. What is is you would like to know, as I have hunted most all of Harpreets areas in Tanzania

mvambrose; This is just the type of feedback (from a former client) that I wanted. At Mpera Camp have you taken lion? Or, what is your perspective? Also, has Harpreet always been your PH or have you hunted with any of his other PH's? Thanks, D. Nelson

As indicated above I have hunted with Harpreet on numerous occassions as has Mike, who posted above. I have not hunted Mpera, but did hunt a neighboring concession with another PH this summer. The Rungwa area generally has tons of lions and I know Harpreet has taken many great lions in Rungwa (which by the way is the area he named his company after). If you book with him you will have an absolutely first rate hunt, non-better.

Saeed, has this "lack" of success anything to do with the areas hunted or how much effort was put into the hunt, I know you have wonderful safaris but the fact that you very rarely shoot cats has always confused me, I would appreciate your opinion

We have always put up several baits for lion whenever we have been on safari. Practically all our baits have been fed on, but, finding a suitable male at an age that can be shot has been very difficult. We see lions on all our safaris though.

Rungwa Mpera is the name of the hunting block. The block is inside the Rungwa Game Reserve. There are a couple hunting blocks carrying the name "Rungwa" that are not in Rungwa Game Reserve but Open Areas. Wembere is the name of another concession which is an Open Area (That is communal land)which partially borders Rungwa Game Reserve in the South. Interestingly, when Harpreet started Rungwa safaris, he did not own a Rungwa block! Now he owns several and that is his dominant area of operation. Maybe he knew something that others didn't "...Them, they were Giants!" J.A. I hunted with Harpreet many years ago. When I return to Tanzania he would be the first I would see if he could accommodate my desired trophy list. Though, I doubt I would have to look anywhere else as I believe he would make things happen.

I'll add a note having known Harpreet's dad and mom. It's a great family. On the concessions, there has been quite a shuffling in the last couple of years within Tanzania. Harpret Brar and Ryan Shallom (now Greenleaf-Tanzania, formerly WildFootprints in Kilombero Valley and next to Harpret's K1 concession) have been looking long and hard at sustainability and running great consessions. I would simply ask either one of them for their appraisal and recommendations on lion. You're in good hands with Harpreet. +-+-+-+-+-+-+ "A well-rounded hunting battery might include: 500 AccRel Nyati, 416 Rigby or 416 Ruger, 375Ruger or 338WM, 308 or 270, 243, 223" -- Conserving creation, hunting the harvest.

[/QUOTE] The reasons Tz is so expensive is that what they have there is the very best & totally unique & the Govt knows it & it's so remote, servicing the areas costs a small fortune. It's fully understandable that not everyone can afford to hunt there but it's a mistake to think it's an overblown destination.

I was hoping Boarkiller would tell us what he thinks it means as both the official definition and the common vernacular are both rather insulting.

I meant guys well off ( write a check and Go ) and didn't mean to offend anyone ( as I stated ). Just being someone with limited means, I'd love to go there, but like I said, prices are out of touch for guys like me, so I piped in that for regular guys, there are just as good destinations for more reasonable prices then Tanzania. Math is universal language and I did the math. I f anyone got offended, well... Why give your 2 cents in the first place. D asked what people thought of the area and outfitter? Not do you think it's affordable for you?
