I enjoy hunting the little guys just as much as the bigger species but I am no authority on horn length. The PH's in camp were more excited about this Steinbok than anything killed all week, so I thought I'd let the experts take a look and give their opinion.

Looks to be around 5+/- inches? Whats the measurement on each horn?

Congrats.

Jerry,

I don't claim to be an expert, but I would have shared the excitement of the PH's in camp. That is one really nice steenbok! Congratulations!

Where was it taken? Outfitter? How did you hunt it? Hunt report?

In good hunting.

That is definitely a huge one. It looks like it would easily make the min. for Rowland & Ward and SCI. The min. I think is 4 1/8" and 11" respectively or close to that, I do not have the numbers infront of me that sounds pretty close.

The small antelope can be very fun to hunt. On my first safari I did not intend to hunt one but had the chance to go after a steenbok myself and had a great time. Now when I go there is allways on of the small antelope on my wish list.

I believe he said it was 11.5cm which would make it about 4.5 inches.

Andrew,
I was in Namibia, and we found him with a group of warthogs while stalking through the bush.

Considering the large ration of grief I took for not shooting this guy below from everyone in camp. I can see that yours is definately bigger. Very well done.

Likewise for me the duiker I shot caused the biggest stir in camp. I managed a quick before shot of this guy. Honestly probably the biggest ranking trophy of my trip. I didn't plan on a duiker but my PH was about to come out of his skin for me to shoot him. I'm glad I did. I'm waiting on the final score on him still.

I do not know if it is huge, but it is bigger than mine and I would have shot it. Good on you....

Very nice, like TheBigGuy, my common Duiker was the best trophy book wise. The small antelope are definetly fun to hunt & many hunter going to Africa overlook these little guys. beer

TJ is correct, just checked my Rowland Ward book, but I was close in my guess.

The little guys are great to hunt, probably the best plains game. I am hoping to get back next year to Natal for Suni and Red Duiker.

Our very own StuC took a monster Steenbok this year in Namibia, but is probably too modest to re-post the picture. I have no such inhibitions... Big Grin

Jerry,
Very nice! Anything over 4" is impressive. Congratulations. Do you know any good taxidermists that might do a full body mount of him! Big Grin

Jerry, If your interested in Rowland Ward, I'd remeasure him. I'm certainly not an expert, but I think he will go over 4.5 inches. I've got 2 that measure around 4"+ and yours is considerable longer.
Don't matter really, he's a dandy.
