Hello to all of you around the campfire whose messages of welcome on my first visit are most appreciated.
I regret that I have been unable to respond as I should have wished due to a constant problem with my connection to the server.
I hope to have a new system in place early next month which will be faster and more reliable and I will endeavor to be more active in the Forum on subjects which I might know something about.
In the meantime I’ll say ‘Cheers’ and look forward to seeing you all soon.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.
Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

Idaho SharpshooterRobert Ruark's stories of his safaris with you are what started me on a long trip to Africa that I finally got to make about six months ago. The most famous quote in African Lore "Cape Buffalo; they look at you as if you owe them money...". That got me to Zimbabwe and a good bull.

There are just not only problems with computers in Botswana!
My ordinary computer was blown up in a lightning that set fire on our neighbours house (50 paces away!) two days ago -totally burned out (a close shave indeed), so I can't email you this message.
A good friend of mine is coming to The Crocodile lodge, outside Maun on Monday evening, leaving for a photo safari in the delta on Tuesday morning. You will have a small parcel to collect at the reception of the lodge.

You can tell I'm a young guy here, because the first time I read about you was in an article written in Petersen's Hunting by Joe Coogan about a Botswana elephant hunt where I believe he used your .416 to take a nice bull. Since then I've come to read a lot of Ruark's books and have to say, I really believe you are truly a legend and I'll read all of your posts here thru wide eyes. I just read your article (Part I, anyway) about Ruark's last elephant hunt, it was a good one! All of the above mentioned articles are part of what inspired me to start saving for Africa! Thank-you and everyone else involved!
