This is the elephant charge that I had this year when hunting with Piet Styen. We shot the elephant at 4 paces. That is why you use a 459lott or something like it when elephant hunting.

Great video, so I suppose you aren't a believer in the story that if the ears are out it is a 'mock charge'?

Rare footage indeed. What an experience that must have been! Were you intending to shoot that elephant anyways or just checking him out?

Those cameramen need nerves of steel. I have always wondered what 'protection' is provided for cameramen in professional "charge videos". In that short clip it can be seen how everyone else is moving away or sideways so for the cameraman to stay put would have been very un-nerving. A good little clip.

We had been tracking that elephant for about 4Hr. Some how he had gotten behind us and was walking down the same game trail that we where. He did not see us until some of the locals ran. We yelled at him to try and get him to move off he then walled off and charged back. The first shot is the PH then 2 of mine. I don't now how I got off 2 Rounds. The elephant was too small; we had to go to Tudura to see the head game officer. When he saw the video all he could say was "Bad Elephant". Then he sent us off to see the immigration people. They said I needed a work permit to hunt in the country and wanted to have me arrested. We told the man to go F himself and left very fast. He did not want to give us his name. I will try to get Piet to tell his side of the story.

OH58,
Did they make you write that elephant down on your license or where you allowed to hunt another and if former, did they allow you to export the tusks? I hope so!

Just before the "shit hit the fan" I hear one of the group says "kifupi" meaning "too short" in Kiswahili... where there other ele's with him or was he alone? Did you see any large ele's on your hunt?

Wow, exciting stuff! Good show!
