Here are the floating bones from the throats of my lion and leopard. Pictures have appropriate backgrounds so that you will be able to tell the difference between the lion's and the leopard's--excuse the dramatic license.

As you can see, my lion had evidently been injured, and one of his floating bones had been broken, perhaps while hunting the buffalo that the lions in his home territory prefer, or maybe in a fight. I think it gives my pair of bones some character.

My leopard's bones are quite symmetrical, although each is slightly different than the other, and they are of course much smaller than my lion's.

My PH told me that these bones are good luck charms (although, like the rabbit's foot, not very lucky for their former owners), and that they can be made into jewelry.

Does anyone have any suggestions about what to do with these? I would be interested to know what others have done.

Thanks.

mrlexma,

I talked to a PH about floating bones and his only suggestion was jewelry. Earrings or necklace.

We were in camp with a guy who shot a lion and the Zulu trackers did a traditional song and presented the hunter with the floating bones.

I found this on the internet.

The bones are from the shoulders, supposedly remnants of once upon a time wings.

There was an excellent description by a fellow from South Africa in a previous post about this. Hopefully a search will turn it up.

Thanks.

I did do a search and found three prior posts, which I will now investigate.

In case anyone else is interested, here are the links:
