Pondoro explicitly badmouthed the practice of visitors' poking the local women. He had more than a little to say on this subject. Doesn't prove he didn't do it, but it's a hint.

I also have the same impression when it comes to Pondoro and women, but I still get the feeling that he was "unusually attached" to some of the local young men he dealt with while out in the bush. Maybe this didn't result in anything physical, but I'm still left with the impression that it may have, from the way he writes about his relationships with them. Which is in a way interesting as this was undoubtably very taboo at the time, and also fits in with his being generally a bit of an outsider that went his own way. Maybe I'm wrong and he was more interested in women. And if I'm right, it still doesn't lessen any of the qualitys of his writing IMO.

RIP and Erik,

If that's true, then who is Will's daddy?

Pondoro poked elephants and native women better than he did a typewriter, eh?

RIP,

I've kind of gotten the impression that he was more into "poking" native men!

(Next time you're in contact with him on your ouija board, tell him no offence is meant from my side, to each his own, and so on... Just want to make sure he doesn't get pissed off, and come up here to haunt me! )

I guess I should have read RIP's post a little closer, as I just now have been shocked into seeing that, once again, he has taken a cheap shot, not only at Taylor, but again at me.

I once claimed that Taylor might have been my father, and I see now that RIP has an excellent memory. If only it could be put to good use.

On a serious note, if you read the post on the African Hunting forum about the "minimum velocity," you can see what I consider important in caliber and cartridge performance. I must admit it has strong ties to what Taylor purported. Whether that is genetically based, I must leave it to others to decide.

But I give credit to RIP, despite the constant personal attacks on the living (me, for the time being) and dead (Taylor in this instance), for trying to do Taylor one better. RIP doing Taylor is not meant in the manner of current jargon; not to my knowledge anyway. He deserves a "that-a-boy" for his efforts, even though they fall well short of reality and field experience.

But the piece da resistance is his death grip on the misguided idea that hogback stocks do not promote muzzle flip. For this he cannot be forgiven, and will forever besmirch and cast dark shadows on any future attempts to disparage me, Taylor's KO values, or Taylor himself.
