While in Tanzania's Kigosi block a couple weeks back, and after loading my second cape buffalo into the hunting vehicle, to our surprise another hunting vehicle approached us. We discovered it was Tanzania Game Trackers with PH Douglas McNeil of the TV show "Dangerous Game" who immediately accused us of being in "their" hunting area. While Douglas pulled out a map to argue with my PH Dean Kendall about some boundries, the respective game Scouts started having a heated discussion about the issue. I stayed out of it and went to talk to the other hunters who were a father and son from Texas. TGT contended we were in the Moyowosi and we said we were in the Kigosi. It's hard to tell boundries in an ever-changing swamp and basically it was decided that nothing could be decided then and there so we each went our own way. We ran into them again a short time later persuing buffalo in what even they previously said was "our" area. I don't know if this type of thing is common as I was told it's typical a road or a river mark boundries but I thought it interesting. It seems in certain parts the buffalo decide the boundries. It seems this happens quite often. I have heard numerous times PH's discussing boundary issues and the Western side including Moyowosi and Kigosi, etc seems to be a big question mark.

It might be resolved as I understand the Game Dpt have earmarked funds for the total demarcation of those hunting blocks. In the meantime, I guess buffalo do decide Smiler

Very strange indeed.

In all my hunting, the boundries are normally a road or a river, so there is no question about it.

The river is the boundary between those two areas. There are so many drainages and small channels that it is really impossible to tell, without an accurate map and a GPS where you are. Add to this that it has been very dry and it is easy to get confused and cross the boundary "river".

Whoever was at fault here, I can't blame them. It really is very difficult to tell the actual boundary. Even when McNeal said that a particular area was Kigosi, and then was found hunitng on it later, I still can't blame him... the who damn place looks the same! He probably just got confused.

It would surprise me if either company knowingly hunted in the others area. I know Dean wouldn't do it, I wouldn't think that TGT would intentionally do it either.

Oh well ... what do you do?

Like Saeed said, usually it is a road or a river. When hunting in Mozambique on the Zim border, each concession owner decided that a crooked road that ran roughly down the border of the two countries would be the hunting border. Even though it wound in and out of Mozambique, each knew which side to stay on.

Not the case in Moyowasi/Kigosi.

When asked "Haven't you ever been lost?", the mountain man answered, "I been fearsome confused for a month or two, but I ain't never been lost!"

I agree with Wendell, some areas just have no natural features to use as landmarks! I know most of the guys at TGT, and I don't believe they would purposely trespass! Could be wrong, however!

I agree, I can't see guys from TGT or the guys in Kigosi intentionally hunting across the border.

I certainly wasn't accusing anyone of hunting out of their area as it is very confusing there. I thought it interesting that even the game officers didn't know either but in such a place it is impossible. Everyone parted friends and the hunters from Texas didn't seem to care either.
