After 5+ years at Accurate Reloading University, I am finally ready to graduate.

I leave on August 14th on my first trip to Africa for ten days of plains game hunting in Namibia, with Kudu and Gemsbock as my main quarry.

I shall be subjecting myself to the wilds of the Kalhari for my post graduate education with "Professor of Hunting" (PH) Karl Stompfe.

I wanted to thank everyone (especially our gracious host, Saeed) for the advanced education that I have received studying here.

Be aware that I will be badgering everyone here with endless questions for the next two months for any hint of necessary information on getting myself, my guns and luggage to Windhoek and then getting everything including my trophies, back home again.

Just remember that when you return you have work to do on your postgraduate degrees and also research towards your thesis and dissertations that will require frequent return trips to Africa. clap clap

I think that's great. If you get it bad like some of us, it will be all-consuming in your future thoughts. Be warned.

It is like no other experience on earth.

I am excited for you. My son and I just recently returned on our first trip (plainsgame in RSA)and the folks here at AR were a huge benefit to me and enhanced my whole experience over there. Thanks again guys. As an "old hand" with one safari under my belt, if I can help I would be honored.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Wonderful. You realize, of course, that's how it starts. I took my plainsgame hunt to "get it out of my system" and found out the effect was exactly the opposite.
Get used to the idea that over the years there will be a lot of money very well spent.

Oh My ... going into the final stages of addiction, eh?

Seriously, congratulations!!!! You'll have a GRAND time.

BUT ... be warned! ... PSD (post safari depression) is real and usually results in the re-evaluation of one's financial priorities (so you can afford to go again Wink )

Congratulations Frank!

I to am amazed, when I stop and think how much I have learned about hunting, Africa, guns , gunsmithuing, ,the history of things gun, such as Mausers and the British and German guns. That came either directly or indirectly from AR.

I very much appreciate what Saeed and everyone have done here. I have yet to make my first trip to Africa (but working on it) but I do enjoy living the trip vicariously thru others and learning.

So Frank, I look forward to reading about your adventure. It's especially helpful read about others thought process as they prepare for the trip (especially their first trip) and then read about their expenses'.

I haven't met Karl personally yet but have corresponded with him a few times and he sure seems to be a good guy.

Oh buy the way, Frank I love your avatar! beer

Frank;

I heard a rumor from another AR member that you were spotted at the range with a very large grin!!!

Can't wait to hear and share your anticipation over the next two months and then the "rest" of the story!!!

Best regards, D. Nelson

You've got to be kidding? With over 43 hundred posts in the last 6 years, I'd think every question needed to be asked would already have been covered. Many times over.

LOL that's only 2 posts per day on the average and some of those weren't questions! Big Grin

I'll be taking my in Model 70 in 375 H&H (Not doing so would make me a communist or something, I'm sure) and the second gun will probably be my 300 WSM. Although my 6.5x284 would be a possibility also, or the 7 Mag, or the 308, or.....

I'll probably let Karl pick the restaurant as I'm not to particular.

Yes, you would be a "commie" if you didn't take the Model 70, .375 H&H. In fact, you probably would be denied your diploma outright and might have to start all over again. dancing By the way the .300WSM is also an excellent choice. clap clap clap
