Todd WilliamsRecognition for a Good Guy Among Us
About 2 years ago, I received a PM, unsolicited, from a forum member inviting me to come and join a small group of hunters he was assembling for a weekend pig hunt. All expenses were covered except getting myself to the venue. It was a GREAT weekend and I met several other forum members as well on that outing; guys I call friends today. Not internet friends, but the real thing.
Since that time, this fellow has included me in numerous get togethers, dinners, and other events. He goes out of his way to help others in need when he can, by both direct and indirect means, often setting up and / or contributing to events for their benefit.
Many of you guys have also been the recipient of this forum member's generosity. In today's mail, I found yet another example. A DVD of his latest safari to Zim, hunting buffalo and elephant! I've watched it already, all the way through.
It's probably clear at this point that I'm talking about Larry Shores. For those who don't know him, you'll have to take my word for it, but for those who do, you already know I'm speaking the truth. Today's DVD receipt simply reminded me that I needed to say a word or two, especially in light of the benefit hunt he just hosted with Mark Sullivan and Pagosawingnut for the benefit of an injured fellow hunter.
Larry, you're a good fellow and I'm proud to be counted among your friends.

bcolyerI ABSOLUTELY AGREE 100%!! Larry is a Stand Up man, and has become a good friend for no other reason than being a good person. He is generous and loyal and can be trusted. How many people can you say that about!
AND......I will not even try to go into the many attributes of his significant other. You should have witnessed the kind conversation and care she gave to my daughter who is recovering from cancer. She helped make my daughters SCI experience!!!
Actually, I have given this line of thought about Larry a great deal of mulling over in my mind. IF indeed, Larry has entered that time of life that many of us are entering, and beginning to give thought about how we may be remembered. I hope I am able to follow Larry's lead....Give graciously and generously and without any expectation of receiving in return. Be willing to be a friend AND make friends with others. Well......this is Larry, over and over.
Here is to my friend.....Larry Shores.

Safari2We need more like Larry.
I expressed interest in his past hunts to Sango and Botswana some time ago and before I knew it he had my mailing address and 4 DVD's showed up within a few days.
I look forward to meeting you in person Larry..thanks for everything you do.

bwana cecilIt doesn't take long to figure out who the good guys are here on AR & Larry Shores is very high on that list.
LORD, let my bullets go where my crosshairs show.

Couldn't agree more Todd!!
I was suppose to be in Florida in 3 weeks, hunting Osceolla Turkey with Larry. He kindly invited me "free of charge" to hunt with him at his club for a few days. I was really looking forward to this one, until 3 weeks ago when I tore my left hamstring (as you know).
Larry is truly a self-less man, who does a lot for others. I too consider him a friend.

MJinesI have to agree Todd although may be the only hunter on AR with a hat uglier than Buzz's hat.

Mike
25 February 2014, 18:21
jorgeI echo those sentiments. Larry sent me a whole lot of his videos from all his hunts (as did Aaron as well!) just by me asking! This plus this whole Stu Taylor issue clearly demonstrates his "good guy" status! Well done Todd!

larryshoresWOW! Thank you all for the kind words.
I do have to wonder about exaggeration. After all, no one could have a hat uglier than Buzz's!

Out of curiosity Mike, which hat is it? I have to take this seriously as my good friend Jeff also told me I had an ugly hat. Y'all are probably right.
Thanks again everyone for the kind words.

Very true words, and I am proud to call him a friend.

MJinesActually I think an ugly hat is the mark of an experienced hunter. That said, anything taken to excess is troublesome . . .
By the way, Jeff and I may agree on the hat, but regarding his comment about your butt . . . I will leave that comment alone. That is just plain disturbing.

larryshoresNow I am concerned. I have 2 of you saying the same hat is ugly! Must be true.

Larry,
Don't worry about the comments on your hat. I will bet that the ZIM PH association will vote it the best clients hat of 2014! BTW, you well deserve the accolades given to you.

JudgeGI and my bride enjoyed a great stay with Larry and Mary Lynn this fall.
It was a joy. Good food, good libations and lots of deer... just no big bucks that weekend. We did see a world class black bear, though!
As a special treat, we were joined by three of their children, two of Mary Lynn's daughters and Larry's oldest son. Really nice young folk, too, which says a bunch about the parents.
Only problem is that Larry won't express his opinions.

JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

I gave Andrew Baldry that same hat. No wonder I never got invited back.
As far as Larry is concerned, it's obvious the gentleman has been judged on his good deeds and can sleep very soundly at night.

rxgremlinLarry you are a stand up guy and may your good deeds come back to you tenfold.

TrophyShotPrintsI couldn't agree more folks...I truly honor Larry as well...not only through the Stu Taylor Benefit, but also receiving a bunch of his high quality DVD's...and very recently a phone call where a green/lowly guy like me was OVERHWHELMED and needed someone to talk to for a new start-up business for a world class resort corporation.
His love, integrity, and compassion to help others is what I describe as
UTMOST GENUINE to the umph degree!
Thank you Larry not only for what you have done for me but for being WHO YOU ARE to ALL who come into contact with you!
God Bless you brother!!!

Aloha!

Larry, I am just jealous. If perchance you decide to start selling used, autographed bush hats of your distinctive style, put me down for one.
[How by the way do I get in on all the Larry Shores freebies, particularly the hunts? Is there a website I need to register on? I promise that unless I have been drinking I will not mention SCI, Shootaway or Mark Sullivan.

BigBBearI have to jump in as well and recognize Larry for the things we have done together and the selfish-less way he helps others. I have known him probably longer than most as we were both young posters on here when we did a gun trade. Been friends ever since.
As to the ugly hat, welllll! I have never said anything but it is pretty ugly.
Larry, you certainly deserve the attaboy!
