Going back to Zim for the first time in 5 years. Has the rifle import procedure changed much? I gave the PH the rifle info, but I am having a problem with my rifle and would like to bring a different one. Will this be a problem? Thanks

Your best bet is to get the relevant information from the people you are going to hunt with.

Saeed is correct. If I remember correctly, your invitation letter must list the rifle caliber, action type, and its serial number. Chuck

Just returned from Zimbabwe...looking at my letter of invite... Rifle make and caliber are not on the invite... and i was good to go. Down load the Zimbabwe rifle permit and have 3 copies filled out when you reach customs to help speed you through the process. They did check rifle and serial number on my permit. Customs also counted my ammo to see if it matched the permit and rifle. Easy process in the customs process. What airport are you landing at...get the information from your PH on what to do... Have the correct US dollars for your customs process... >>>>>>>>>>>>>> "You've got the strongest hand in the world. That's right. Your hand. The hand that marks the ballot. Letter of invite will have dates and location of hunt. PH's name and license number. Species to be hunted, i.e.. Buffalo Plains game, Elephant plains game etc. It also states the firearms will be used for hunting purposes only. It also states the name and address of safari company you are hunting with. We fill out thirty to forty of these per year and do not put on the firearms info. The letter of invite is accompanied by the temporary firearms permit. As Bwana338 stated fill out three copies of this in advance of landing and you will be all set. Zim is quite easy to deal with regarding firearms.

My outfitter had me prepared, letter of invitation with SN, make and chambering. Also had a gov't document with similar info on it. They counted my ammo and checked the SN, both on arrival and departure. Actually I took no ammo home and they gave me the evil eye when I told them I shot all 60 rounds of 375HH. This was two weeks ago. NRA Patron member

Guess I'm wrong - my outfitter told me to get the amount of ammo exactly right on for the letter (and the permit app) and the letter had to include the rifle data. My letter had this data as did that for another AR member. He entered 8/16 and I entered 7/31 of this year. But if others have had no issue without this information in the invitation letter, then I'm wrong about the requirements for the letter. Chuck

Please abide by the wishes of your particular outfitter. There is nothing wrong with putting this info on the letter of invite. I simply am pointing out the way we are currently doing it and have for a long time without issues.
