Been to the Save River Valley Conservancy twice and highly reccommend it.I hunted with Roger Whittall (Humani) and would give them a big thumbs up.This area has a very very good number of leopard and I am sure you will be happy whoever you hunt with.

Judge,

For you, I'd make an exception about who I share that passionate goodnight kiss with, 'cause, to borrow a line from that classic movie with John Voight and Burt Reynolds, "you sure do got a purty mouth!" After that experience, you wouldn't care how loud I snore.

Mbogo,

I thought you were hung up on going after that big kitty-cat. Didn't know you would be willing to lower yourself back into the mundane world of buffalo (even though I understand there are some king kitties available in the Save, just don't know how to go about getting a permit for one).

Hunter Jim,

Planning on going this coming summer (June or July). Would love to have you on the hunt, especially if you happen to be a blind, twenty-something hot chick, into overweight fifty-something men (something tells me this is not the case). You're still welcome to share the trip, as long as you are slow enough for the wounded mbogo to key on you while I make my get-a-way Still waiting on your quote BTW. Your email back up yet?

The one thing that really sucks about being addicted to African hunting is that I cant get anyone to go on hunts with me at least not anyone whos solvent! Sure, I can take one,or all three of my sons. I did that last year and wouldnt trade the experience for a million bucks (which is pretty close to the amount of debt I accrued in doing it). And most all of my regular hunting buddies have kindly offered to accompany me to anywhere on the continent I want to go as long as I foot the bill!

Now, before you get your panties in a wad, Judge Ern, I, of course, realize you tried to get me to accompany you to The-Country-Formerly-Known-As-Tanganyika this last summer. Unfortunately, I was not in position to make the trip then. Besides, I have my heart set on going to a particular place, that being the Save Valley Conservancy in Zimbabwe, where I want to hunt buffalo and leopard. I have been infatuated with the Save Valley for quite some time and believe the concept that led to its formation to be the future of Big Five hunting in Africa. I have been dickering with two outfitters who hunt in the Save, that being Shangaan Hunters and Jumbo Moore. I think that hunting with either one would be a positive experience.

So, I guess Ill have to forget about the grand-or-so I would save on a 2x1 hunt, and go ahead and book 1x1. But its not the money Ill miss; its the sharing of the sundowner at the end of the day; the comparing of the days adventures; the passionate good night kiss (that is if my hunting companion were to happen to be a blind, twenty-something hot chick with a thing for overweight, fifty-something men with limited means -- sorry to get your hopes up, Judge).

Oh well (sigh), somebody pass the worms!

GA HUNTER

I have hunted Zim on several occasions. Have not hunted with Shangaan, but have heard nothing but good reports about them. Know Jumbo Moore and can highly recommend him.
You may want to check with these guys. I received word from some other friends in Zim that there has been an anthrax outbreak in Save with about 1500 dead animals reported. This was dated at the end of September.

I have the same exact problem with domestic hunts. All the "deals" are for 2x1 or more, and I'm the only fool I know who spends the kind of money it takes to do these things. I feel your pain.

GAHunter,

I got the machine up at the end of last week, and I have been cranking through the accumulation. I haven't found a quote yet, but I will keep digging.

I did get a note from Gordon, and he has a leopard and some buff available right now.

This particular movie came to be the main reason I carry "backup" when I'm hunting in America. I ain't squealin' like a pig fer no one.

GAHunter,

After two hunts in the Save' with Shangaan Hunters I can recommend them without a problem. If you hunt with them you will also get to meet Clive Stockill who was the instigator of the CAMPFIRE Program and is still a major force behind the Conservancy.

When are you planning to go to Zim? I might "need" to go back myself. Except I recommend 1X1 hunts for those big buff.

Mr. Brown:

I'm not hurt, I'm happy. You snore. Call Jim (Mbogo375). He is a pushover for anything. He even offered to put me up during the hurricanes.

We need to get together and shoot the .404's though.. at least you won't snore doing that.

I dont mean to be a critic here, however the phrase as was told to us 3 boys by our Mother was, "Nobody loves me! Guess I go out in the garden and eat worms!"

It became a family tradition and is responsible for numerous wonderful memories! Thanks for reminder!

I received an email from Gordon Duncan this afternoon. He is in the middle of sorting out a wounded Cape buff.

"Hi Jim,
Anthrax contained up in the northernmost section of the conservancy, not currently affecting the south and projections is that it will die down with the onset of the rains and we are having some now.
don't expect a problem on Senuko."

Senuko is Shangaan's home ranch, and is in the southern area of the Conservancy. There were something like 22 ranches combined to create Save'.

Like mbogo375, I can't believe you'd forget they guy who not only encouraged you to book your first African hunt, but also got you to accept the heavy mantle (sp?) of leadership, a la the GASCI Board of Directors! I'm hurt (sniff).

BTW, I'm in a new job, managing 3 RE/MAX offices. Hit me on my office email: patmunn@remax.net

Leon, Leon, Leon, it hurts me deeply to think that a fellow GA404 Shooters Society member would not even think of a poor ol' south Georgia boy before giving up on a two-on-one hunt in Zim . First JudgeG decides to take someone else to Tanz next year, and now this. So much rejection from every side,I think that I will just go into my trophy room, look at my buffalo and leopard and cry .

To go alone is no fun, but it beats staying home.

To have someone along you wish was not there, is worst of all.

To be in a camp with "noncompatible" people, is not much better.

I either go with my wife, or alone.

Kathi posted a report from "sources in Harare" who said the anthrax ouitbreak was in two areas near the Gona Re Zhou park. One area was the communal lands area next to the park, and the other cited was Save'.

Save' is not contiguous with the other two areas, and I have not received any confirmation yes or no on the report. Anybody else have any direct information?

Russ, I'm going to have to start sleeping with my rifle too! I almost had to ditch my regular hunting partner last year. Picture this.

We're staying in a small room with a couch on one side, and a table on the other, parralell to the couch. All the whiskey and food was on the table. I set up my military cot in front of the table and between the couch (parrallel to both and blocking the table). We went to sleep - my buddy in his gitch on the couch and me in the cot.

He couldn't sleep, so he wanted a whiskey. He couldn't reach it on the table, so he stepped over the cot and straddled it while fixing himself a drink. Something made me wake up, and when my eyes opened, all I saw was this big hairy sack hanging out the side of his gotch about 4" away from my mouth!

Thanks GOD I yelled instead of gasped! He jumped, the JD fell all over me and after the initial shock wore off, we had a good laugh. Nice visual! Talk about nightmares!

I'm not even going to TELL you about the hiker's crack/chapstick incident!!

I think that 1x1 in a camp with no other hunters is the best of all worlds. 2x1 is asking for trouble, and the savings on daily rates is not much.
