A monster indeed and a very under rated game animal.

How do you guys hunt them? Bait, or is it just a target of opportunity? If you go to Addis Abeba you will probably get a fine male with the bumper of your car...they come into the city at night for butcher shop scraps, dead dogs etc...They are HELL on domestic dogs!

We hunted at night,on the ground, with a call.Very scary, very fun.You can hear them you can feel the ground move as they come in.Those electric eyes! If you go please give it a try.I almost enjoyed it more than the Kudu.

With a call--as in predator call? How did you make the kill? Light? Anything such as big kitties show up? I went out with a predator call last time; after less than 2 minutes the PH jumped up and loudly proclaimed "let's get the hell out of here" and flicked on his torch and started walking and kept talking loud and that was that!

Hyena\jackal call (tape).340 Weatherby.PH Brent Hein in Zim @ Bingwa. It was at night, turned on the tape, waited for the spotlight.Although you heard them crying, you felt them running towards you on the ground.Kinda scary, but a good kind of scary. You could just make out their eyes when a tracker would hit the light.Awesome! I will post a report later in the week with photos.I highly recommend one night out if you are on the right property(private).

In a blind with a call. That sounds like a good time. I'll have to hit up my ph on that one. My last time, I shot a puppy. Are they called puppys? either way it was small, but it was the only one that would hold still long enough to get shot. I'd like the chance to redeem myself.

In Zim in 2002, we went out around midnight with an electronic caller.

The PH would turn on the tape, turn off all the lights, and then hit the spotlight after a few minutes.

The only hyena we saw was a pair of eyes a hundred or so yards away.

But at the next site, when he hit the light, there were 2 lions lying in the grass about 30 yards away just watching us, as if they came to see a comedy show. When he turned on the light, they just got up and walked away.
