Lions wreak havoc in Maasai Bomas

By Musa Juma
From The Arusha Times

A pack of lions has invaded Terrat village in Simanjiro district and has eaten three cows while nine others have gone missing.

The villagers told news reporters that the lions were noticed in the woods in the area from May 21 this year.

But the lions wouldn’t go away even after the morans hunting party supported by the anti-poaching squad have tried to chase them away from the residents’ dwellings. They still lurked in the neighbouring woods.

The village chairman Isaya Supuki said during the night of May 21 the lions invaded the homestead (Boma) of Sibitiek Matinda and ate a cow. They came again the following night and killed another for a second helping.

The village’s Olaigwanan Lesira Sambuti said, the lions were a threat to the villagers and their animals as they had refused to leave their hideout in the woods. Steven Mjatta one of the anti poaching scouts confirmed the reports saying the lions had followed the other animals (their prey) that had immigrated to Terrat area for pastures due to prevailing drought conditions in Tarangire National Park.

The village leaders called on the government to send reinforcements to chase away the dangerous animals from their village.

Don't get your hopes up Wendell those lions will be poisoned and dead long before July if they are not already. The Masai do not give a bloody hoot about the lions and would rather sacrifice their first born to save a cow Mad I Better not get started on this subject it will ruin my day. Their is the government way & then there is the Masai way.

Boundary village to Luke's & Big Game Blocks and as Safari12 quite correctly states, these cats are going to be history by July 1st (in fact probably dead already) - and any others that might be in the vicinity.

Luke and Raoul may end up having more Chinese than Masai. Hope they have anti-poaching teams.

Yeah, and a lot of small cats will eventually get digested by our Asian friends, also...

Kiboko,
Since the Chinese contractors have started the road works around Arusha/Manyara region, hundreds of somali have moved in from Kenya and elephant poaching (and lion killing for meat, fat, organs, etc) has increased dramatically. The Maasai's now have another reason to kill lions other than protecting their livestock. It takes just a day from Lukes', Raouls' and half a day from Adams' to get to Minjingu Wink

You can always count on China looking out for number one and screwing everyone else. I love their attitude. Russia is almost as bad, but China just works extra hard at being assholes.

1. supplying Zimbabwe with weapons during the election

2. poison toys, toothpaste, ect

3. their indespensible help with keeping Iran for having nuclear weapons

4. oh yeah their indespensible help with keeping South Korea for having nuclear weapons

5. all the help with closing down the market that fuels the poaching of endangered and threatened species

6. their opression and human rights violations of their own people

7. their unwillingness to help with the environment in anyway

I can keep going, but the list is too long. Mad

Just reading Wilbur Smith's book "Elephant Song" and although fiction, IMO, it is quite accurate to what is happening.

Zim/Tanz PH & Ex Rhodesian soldier Paddy Curtis.

That's twice the man's past life has been publicly and unnecessarily exposed.
IMO to mention he is a PH operating in Zim/Tanzania would suffice. Any additional info could be obtained through a simple PM.

Kibokolambogo,

I wasn't under the oppinion that was a 4 letter word. Someone correct me if I'm wrong (as I may very well be), but I thought the Selous Scouts spent their time hunting down and killing Mozambiquan terrorists illegally crossing into Rhodesia. That doesn't sound like besmerching the man's name to me.

Good Lord! You jump to conclusions my friend!
Who said anything about besmirching and 4 letter words?
Most were not Mozambican rebels either (Samora was but not Bob and they were 2 different wars).
Bob happened to have won his war and possibly one of the many reasons why the minority of those left have borne the brunt.
To advertise his past is not IMO the kind of publicity he needs (if any at all) and as I had stated earlier, just PM the interested party and describe our man in all the detail you want.
I have known him nigh on 25 years but never heard him mention his past freely to others so I fail to see any reason why it should be done on
a public forum.

Fair enough. Not jumping to conclusions, just a little confused. My Zimbabwean/Rhodesian history isn't up to par I guess. I didn't realise the Selous Scouts were involved with or against Zimbabwean independence. Pardon me.

BAB,
I hope I didn't sound offensive - it was not intended to be in any way.
