Hippo kills man The Herald January 26, 2008 A Kariba man was attacked and killed by a hippo while paddling in a small boat in Lake Kariba last weekend. Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Paul Nyathi said Daniel Matinde (32) was in the company of James Kahonde (38) and Dickson Kamutsarendo (32) when tragedy struck near Wild Heritage Harbour. "The boat was attacked by a hippo and Matinde was thrown out and plunged into the water before he was attacked and killed by the hippo," said Insp Nyathi. Kahonde and Kamutsarendo paddled to the shore safely. Inspector Nyathi said police were still to retrieve Matinde’s body. — HR.
