RSA in 2022?
Looked at fishing trip to Oman in November. First question from outfitter was if I was double vaccinated - otherwise can’t enter Oman.

If hunting doesn't return to normal by 2022 how many outfitters have the means to hang on? How many outfitters will be left?

Lots of people are going hunting.

Hunters had always had to go through hoops to get to hunt.

Add another step or two and you are good to go.

I plan to go in 2022. At this point not much more hassle to go to Africa than any where else.

My clients returned to Africa back in March of this year. Other that the hassle of Covid testing and wearing a mask, all hunts went smoothly. I have friends and clients in Russia as I type this and it's a process that takes 2-3 months to get your Visa, gun travel papers etc. Hunting has been great, but what happens middle of 2022; no telling, but hunts are booked, plans are made and life goes on. Deals are being made with airlines if you look hard enough, some much better than our usual cattle cars. LDK

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

In May of '22 I will bring four hunters with me to South Africa. Several more are "thinking about it."

I would never discourage anyone from hunting anywhere on the planet but to think that travel will ever go back to a pre-covid state would be an error in thinking. Disease and pandemics will continue to be a major issue, it's not new if you have hunted outside of Southern Africa you've seen yellow fever testing at the airport. There will be obstacles to overcome but it can be navigated even if it requires an "agent" like MrX at Joberg to streamline the process. There are many South Africans using AR and I understand that they don't want to do anything to discourage clients from coming to the RSA but to try and tell people that civil unrest is over and that everything is hunky dorry would be misleading to say the least. The RSA will continue to have serious social issues that will escalate as we go through this decade. Their own government web site clearly spells out the details of weath/land redistribution here's the link (https://www.gov.za/issues/land-reform) and the Limpopo Valley is and will continue to be a hot point for indigenous Zulu descendants. To say that the RSA is "safe" is also misleading, I guess if you think that 60 murders a day on average with almost 22,000 people murdered in 2020 is acceptable then things are OK but that's not my opinion. It's just a matter of time before some gang stops, robs and murders a van full of hunters on hi way 1 or 4 going north out of Joberg. It's a miracle that it hasn't happened to a group yet it's certainly happened to phs, truck drivers other locals. I'm not saying don't go but do hire Mr X at Joberg to deal with your firearms discuss security with your PH about local lodges in Joberg and transportation security to your hunting area, it only makes sense to use caution. All this being said I'm sure the South Africans will have a lot to say to say the least! Just use common sense and do your own research.
