Well congratulations, Russ!! Remember, crap rolls downhill -- the higher up you go, the less soiled you can get! Congrats, Colonel!

Congratulations.
I've heard it repeated that the higher up the totem pole you go the more of your ass is exposed. Keep it tucked up tight snd close.

Ann:

Russell with scrambled eggs on his hat... darn. Am I going to be worthy to pour his wine in Tanzania? Boy, he must have impressed his superiors in Iraq.

On second thought, it will be an honor to serve Lt. Col. Taylor... and I can't wait to write about his first buffalo!

Russ:

Come to Dallas and meet your hunting mates. I'll buy you the first drink.

Congratulations, Sir!

Congrats! But we all know that any soldier's authority, influence, wisdom and good sense all plummet above the rank of sergeant!

Awwwwwwwww, shucks howdy.

<< Hands in pocket, looks down, sees rock, kicks it. >>

Thanks, everyone. Really. Thank you.

I'll get pinned sometime next year but, for now, it's a BIG deal (to me, certainly) to come out on the list. To say I was elated would be a gross, gross understatment.

And on one of the previous comments... I AM "living hard" this year... three bear hunts and a hog hunt. Next year, my first safari to the Dark Continent, courtesy of all my friends... and I mean "friends"... here.

It's good to be alive. And, in that respect, I will fulfill my promise to DHUFF in laying some keepsakes of his son, KIA earlier this year, at the site where I drop my first Cape buffalo. This war stuff... this military stuff... it's all about who lives and who dies. It's all about honoring warriors and the memories of their lives. When I walk and hunt Africa this next year, I'll never forget for a moment that it's because I'm alive to do so, when so many of my brothers in arms aren't. I know they'd rather be alive and hunting than dead, and that will always be on my mind until the day I join them.

Being able to hunt is a lot of things to a lot of people and, to me, it's also an inherent gift of life.

Thanks for the well wishes and congratulations, everyone... really. Thanks.

Godspeed.

Russ
