Just received my copy of Safari Times Saturday and Kevin Anderson will become President of SCI on May 7, 2011 despite all efforts to convince SCI otherwise. I don't think this is a wise move on SCI's part but guess we will have to go along with it for a year and hope a better person is in the wings for the next term?

It will be very interesting to see how Kevin Anderson presents himself to the membership and what he does and does not accomplish for the good of all while in office. coffee

Has he shot a Rhino? Any evidence that he did business with Dawie Groenwald? How many times as he hunted with OOA? Is he a share holder of any business linked with Dawie or his mates. What about Dawie's ex boss cop & his involvement in safari business & a bit of stink about Rhino poaching?

why would he bother to present himself to the membership, since they have no vote for the president anyway. and besides, everyone is entitled to legal representation in court- even scofflaws who plead guilty to illegal hunting/importing of leopard into the US( and who you just happen to have an alleged business relationship with).

Of Course everyone is entitled to legal representation in court. However when that person has been found guilty of contravening US fish and wildlife acts(the leopard case) ,has been banned from Hunting in Zimbabwe and is being indicted for Rhino slaughter in his home country, it seems very strange that the head of a body such as SCI , would choose to defend such a person. In my mind the President of SCI should choose to distance himself and his organisation from such behaviour. Groenewald and OOAS have been bad news for many many years. Surely even a Groenewald buddy like Anderson can see the immense damage this could do to SCI. I can see the headlines now .....SCI supports Rhino poacher....as some over zealous reporter twists the facts.

Here's a quote from Newsweek Jan 13, 2006

"Dawie Groenewald, one of the founding partners of Out of Africa, denies that his company has done anything ethically wrong and says that he has been slandered by white Zimbabwean hunters. "The white Zimbabweans hunting in Zim don't want anyone else coming in there to hunt--they hate South Africans coming to hunt in their kingdom," he told NEWSWEEK. Out of Africa's attorney, Kevin Anderson, says that "these allegations about poaching and other illegal activities have been floating around for several years and they've never been substantiated." .

That's enough for me. DSC it is.

maybe old Kev should update his denial- THEY HAVE BEEN SUBSTANTIATED VIA A GUILTY PLEA IN FEDERAL COURT. those jealous white Zimbabweans must have forced him to plead guilty when there was no basis in fact for the charges. sometimes even a lawyer can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit but he can end up with a smelly bib.

Does anyone have his email address? Maybe we could all contact him to ask for a statement?

It wont take much twisting of the facts in my mind. There is only one kind of twisting that bunch should do and it involves a scaffold and a rope. Hopefully Mr Andersons association with that bunch wont do any more damage to SCI than it already has. It is going to be an interesting year I think.

Dawie is right....Operators in Zimbabwe dont like it when operators from South Africa come into Zim.......in much the same way as South African Operators dont like it when a Zim outfit ventures into SA. Unfortunately, there have also been a great deal of SA operators that do business with less than savory characters in Zim, so there is little wonder that they are viewed in a dim light. OOAs is a classic example of exactly the sort of operator that any country wants to keep out. Yes we most certainly did not want the likes of him elbowing his way (illegally) into Zim.

Out of Africa has proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that they have no regard for ethics and The Hunting Code. That in itself should be enough for SCI, and every SCI member to walk away completely from any Association with them.
