I've been looking for some CD's that are traditional African songs and/or music and have not had any luck. I really like the background instrumentals we often hear in hunting videos by Boddington and all of the others.

I've tried various places like Amazon.com and so on but no one seems to have what I am looking for. Do any of you guys/gals know a source?

Thanks. John

John,

I bet a phone call or e-mail to Adam Clements wife would take care of it.

Good idea Scottie boy. Will check with them while we are in Dallas. I'm sure the Clements are in Reno now.

I am not sure what you are looking for. A search on Amazon "african tribal music" yielded only about 19 titles. A better result came back from eBay.

Is there something in particular?

Thanks 375 AI. Some of those titles at Amazon are paperback books and not music CD's. I have ordered African music before and it turns out to be a religious group singing. I'm looking for more traditional songs/music. African drums, native songs, native music, chanting. I love the background music and voices you always hear on the African hunt videos.

Hope that helps. Not sure how else to describe it!!

John,

Is there a Borders Books and Music store near you? They often have some traditional African music. Go to the International Section, look under Africa Miscellaneous. I have picked up a couple of CDs there (drums and traditonal chants).

If you are looking for some very good current African music, I can highly recommend Oliver Mtukudzi. His best two albums are "Tuku Music" and "Nhava". Also good is "The Oliver Mtukudzi Collection - The Tuku Years" (although it has several of the same songs that are on the Tuku Music album. So I wouldn't buy them both as there is too much duplication). I don't recommend his other albums.

If I was going to buy just one album of his, I would recommend "Tuku Music" as the best.

Regards,

Terry

Thanks Terry. May have to go to the big city of Billings, MT for a Borders store. The only Borders we have here belong to the counties!! Smiler

Jarrod,
Her name is Chantelle. She was raised in Zim and sells imports and curios on Adam's web site: http://www.safaritrackers.com/

I just figured she'd know.

If you'll go to amazon.com, they usually have samples of all the songs on a CD. You can listen to them before you buy. Here is a link to the Oliver Mtukudzi Tuku Music, the artist that Terry recommended. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00000JG1M/qid=1137629...usic&v=glance&n=5174

If you scroll to the bottom of the page you can read customer reviews.

On Amazon, I just typed in the words African Drums in the Music search and got 70 hits. There are several there that look pretty good.

Typed in African Chants and got 17 hits.

Terry

Do you have a Borders Book Store nearby? I've never been to one that didn't have an "African" music section.

I heard mbira music for the first time in a world music class in college.

I've always liked it and now that I've gotten to hunt with Shona trackers their music means that much more to me.

You can sample the Shona mbira music on Amazon.

Shona mbira music on Amazon

I've been listening to it a lot lately.

Some of the other stuff sounds a little too much like copies of other music styles rather than their own.
