Got back from Tanzania Thursday night. Here's a quick preview of how things went:

Tough conditions made us work. It was very dry and game was somewhat scarce. Trophy quality was excellent and I came home with much more than I expected or deserved.

Tell us about the leopard hunt? Which areas did you hunt? Did you have 2 ph's with you as I see 2 different people in your pics (or are they friends?)?

Thanks for the responses. I've been really looking forward to sharing this with all of you.

Struck gold is an apt description. Copious amounts of luck were involved in every animal I took. Someone was looking out for me.

I have lots of stories and pictures to share, but I'll spread them out into other threads so the picture downloads don't get to be a burden.

We were hunting in Masailand about 120 km outside of Arusha. I split time between two camps, Lobo in Masai West, and Lokasalie. The hunting blocks were on the eastern boundry of Tarangire National Park. Lokasalie was mostly open savanah and looked like "Out of Africa". Lobo was mixed brush that looked like "thornbush hell".

My PH was Ridge Taylor, the camo guy in the leopard photo. The other guy is my friend from Botswana, Ronnie Blackbeard, who is also a PH. Ronnie was an "observer" on this trip. By the second day, Ronnie was also lead tracker, truck mechanic, elephant-attitude adjuster, and staff entertainer.

I took the solids for the 338 thinking I might run into a big buffalo while hunting plains game. It never worked out that way, so I only used a few solids for coup de grace shooting.

Best shot: Second shot on the lion - running dead away, my shot hit him at the base of the tail and rolled him in a ball of dust. Just like in a movie.

Luckiest shot: Killed a lesser kudu with a 190 yard offhand shot.

Worst Shot: Flat missed a greater kudu standing broadside at 50 yards.

I was totally unprepared for the distances I had to shoot on the plains game. Almost everything was 200 to 300 yards. I wish I had taken my 300 as my light rifle.

I'll post some other stuff later. Here's a pic of the full bag.

WOW, not that is a great lesser kudu you have there, can you please post a picture of it? If you hit it at 190yards offhand, I take my hat off to you!
