Leopard on the loose in KZN 07/07/2008 10:13 - (SA) Durban - A leopard is on the loose on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast and residents have been warned to stay indoors and be cautious, police said on Monday. Captain Jabulani Mdletshe said several people had spotted the leopard in Mvutshini at the weekend. It was believed to have escaped from the Hluhluwe Game Reserve. "Four goats have already been killed by the leopard in the area and we are concerned about the people," said Mdletshe. No human fatalities had been reported yet. "We urge people to be extra careful. We have contacted the wildlife authorities to assist in tracing and capturing the animal," he said. Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife spokesperson Maureen Zimu confirmed the case and said wildlife officials had set a trap in an attempt to capture the animal. "The trap was set on Sunday night and our officials are en-route to the area to check if the animal was caught. We will know soon enough," she said.
