Bwana,

Yellow fever is good for life now in Tanzania.

As in, if we got a yellow fever vaccine in 2022, it never has to be done again? Or does this only apply to some new YF vaccine?

As of 2013 they say the 10 year booster is not necessary, so you would be good to go - per WHO:

The yellow fever ‘booster’ vaccination given ten years after the initial vaccination is not necessary, according to WHO. An article published in WHO’s Weekly Epidemiological Record (WER) reveals that the Organization’s Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on immunization (SAGE) has reviewed the latest evidence and concluded that a single dose of vaccination is sufficient to confer life-long immunity against yellow fever disease.

Since yellow fever vaccination began in the 1930s, only 12 known cases of yellow fever post-vaccination have been identified, after 600 million doses have been dispensed. Evidence showed that among this small number of “vaccine failures”, all cases developed the disease within five years of vaccination. This demonstrates that immunity does not decrease with time.

Yep... thanks. I leave Saturday for the Moyowosi in Tanzania and at the Health Clinic all I needed to update was Typhoid. Not a biggie but now that I am over 60 I am a little more cautious when it comes to boosters.

I am taking Malarone...

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Talking of sun screen.

I have never used any, except diving and snorkeling in the Maldives!

I found that while on the surface of the water, my calves and back on my neck get sun burned!!??

I think because the water magnifies the sun.

Otherwise never use it.

Nelson, a friend from Chile, used to get dark almost black while hunting from the sun!!

I am suggesting it as a means to mitigate the magnifying effect that doxycycline has on sun exposure to skin. You don’t use doxycycline.

But, I thought sunscreen was part of your tsetse fly mixture — sunscreen, SSS, and deet?
