Professional Hunter Ridge Taylor has taken his last great adventure. It is with sorrow that I relate the passing of Ridge. Ridge died on the morning of Saturday, June 4th as a result of cancer. Ridge was a good friend, outstanding hunter and responsible for my introduction to Africa. He will be missed. "There are worse memorials to a life well-lived than a pair of elephant tusks." I hunted with Ridge two years ago in Tanzania. Here's how I'll always remember him: He was in a tremendous amount of pain during our entire safari, but he put forth every effort to make my hunt successful. You can see he was wearing a back brace in this photo. He thought he had a herniated disc. It was almost a year later that he found out he had an aggressive cancer that had spread to his lower spine. Bwanamrm hunted with Ridge just after I left camp. Ours were just about his last safaris. Ridge was a driven guy who ran a tight ship. My trophies arrived in Houston three weeks after I got home. This typifies the kind of operation he ran. I'm glad I got to hunt with Ridge and I'll miss him. ______________________________ "Truth is the daughter of time." Francis Bacon

Though I didn't know Ridge well, I have talked to him a couple times at the Dallas show. He was always a gentleman, and I suspect a fine PH, as well. His passing is sad news! My condolences to his family, and his many friends in the USA, and other places in the world! Throw away that back brace Taylor, and hunt pain free now! ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

I've known and worked with Ridge since 1991. I was fortunate to have spent time with him in camp in Tanzania and observe first hand what a first rate PH he was. I will miss him.

My condolences as well. Although I did not know Ridge well, I did meet him and could tell he was a good guy. Another premature loss that the world could do without. John

That's a tough break and a hard way for anyone to go, especially for an active man used to the outdoor life. Best wishes and condolences to friends and family. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

The reception will be held at: Juniper Country Club, 6600 South Bannock Highway, Pocatello, ID. Ridge was honest, ethical and a hard working PH. Like Forrest, I had no idea his back pain was cancer, but when he discovered it, he faced it bravely and fought it to the end. He lived a life many of us can only dream about and left as his epitaph, thousands of memories of hundreds of hunters... On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.
