I know that some of you might have already seen the couple of photos that I posted on the recent post regarding the use of porcupine quills. For those that didn't, or for those that saw pics of my elephant ears painted, but unframed, here are a couple of pictures to show you the "final products". Sorry that they appear to be "crooked", but they're already high up on the walls in the entryway in our house,and the cameraman was angled, rather than straight.

I think these are just beautiful. I'm doing a tuskless in August, and other than some bracelets, I was sad to think I'd have little to show for it, other than pictures and stories. May I ask who the artist was-is, and what it cost to have this done?

I'd very much like to have this done with mine....presuming I'm successful.

The artist was a woman who Life Form Taxidermy uses to paint their client's elephant ears. I don't have her name, but Bridgit at Life Form would be able to give it to you, I'm sure. The costs were the tanning of the ears (can't recall the costs for that as they were part of the overall tanning of the elephant hide, etc.), the paintings ($1500 per ear) and the framing ($1200 for both ears). For some that may be too expensive, but the detail in the painting of my ears is incredible, especially with all of the animals on the map of Africa. Also, we had the ears framed at Michael's and waited until there was a sale on their custom framing of 50% off. That way we were able to get both ears framed for the price of one. Like everything else in life, if you want it to be nice it is going to cost you some money to get it done right.

Jorge: Thanks Jorge, they are very nice! The quills are in both pics of the elephant ears. Look in the lower right and left hand corners. The pics are a little dark; however the quills are fanned out for greater effect. Two other pics of the framed elephant ears before they were hung are on the post dealing with What To Do With Porcupines or Porcupine Quills. Bwanna and Retreever: Yes, Bwanna was a great supervisor, although I must truthfully say that he actually did volunteer a week earlier to come over and help hang them. It just so happened that I had two others show up before he and Slim did, who helped to hang them. It took three ladders and four of us to hang each one of them, although six were actually present at the "hanging".
