I am bored with the std 98 to some degree. Many people build light 7x57,98 rifles with thin barrels, which I do like, but I would like to try something slightly different. How about these: Magnum Mauser: 7mm/300H&H wildcat, lightened std depth straddle magbox ,25-26" barrel .530-.540" muzzle Magnum Mauser: .338/300H&H wildcat, std depth custom widebox or dropbox(both have same capacity),23.5" barrel .580" muzzle Mounts: Custom integral square bridges with conetrol rings.Square bridges would be about 15mm, (just enough to accomodate the length of conetrol ring). Front squarebridge would be positioned to accomodate the exact length of a leupold 2.5-8x. The idea is to still have a thin elegant 98 stock/grip/forend/barrel.More or less a lengthened slim 7x57 ie:7mm/300H&H if you know what I mean, with just that little extra weight for the magnum cartridge coming from the magnum action. - weight reducing cuts likely on action for the 7mm/300h&h,but not the 338/300h&h. Sound OK in your mental picture?

Your'e right, If one compare a .333 Jeffery Rimless case with any of the "new" short Magnums, you realize that very little is new under the sun. The .333 Jeffery Flanged has a necked down and shortened .450 3 1/4" case Husky
