What do you guys do about Life/travel insurance when hunting dangerous game in Africa and anywhere away from home?? Do you tell your insurance company you are going to Africa to hunt Lions,Elephants,Buffalo and/or bears in Canada/Alaska and its not just the animals hunted with snakes etc in the same area. As far I I know your life insurance is covered anywhere. The only thing we do is renew our MedJet insurance. bobga

One VERY important point. Most US health insurance policies do not cover illnesses/injuries out of the country. You should consider purchasing a separate policy just in case. If you get mauled by a lion, it is your cost. If you subscribe to the Hunting Report, you should read what happened to Don Causey a year or so ago. Long story short, he fell out of a machan while hunting. He was severely injured. He did not have either Medjet or health insurance to cover foreign travel. Cost him in excess of $100K In the late 1980's I got injured on a hunting trip out of the country. I leardned the hard way. Unless there is an exclusion, most life insurance would still be in effect.

I would be interested to know if anyone has bought such a separate major medical insurance plan for foreign coverage and how to go about it. Doesn't the CSA plan have such coverage? Thanks much. I am in the process of buying right now. I am leaving on 7/23 for Argentina to shoot doves & ducks and 8/28 to Tanzania. I went to the insurance brokers I use for my businesses. It was readily available through them. Fairly simple application. I do not remember the cost. There are multiple plans available. For example a plan that covers a year and a plan that covers a shorter time frame like a month. I will ask my office manager for the name of the actual insurance company and post it for you tomorrow.

A few months before my first safari in 2003 I wanted to buy some term life insurance. The application asked if I was taking an international trip in the next 12 months. Once the different companies found out I had such a trip coming up so soon, they declined to offer coverage until I got back. A lesson learned: If you have an interest in buying life insurance prior to a safari, apply more than a year before you leave.

I just purchased a health insurance policy for me and my 15 year old son for our upcoming dove/duck hunt in Argentina from the company I previously posted a link. To provide health insurance while in Argentina for both of us, the cost was $73.92. By the way, that is for $1,000,000 of coverage each. I don't see how one can afford to not buy this.

I also just bought a policy for my 22 year old son for the same trip. It was $21 & change for that policy.

I had trouble buying new policies in the '70's, not problem with those already written. As soon as they found out I had a dangerous hobby (making elephants die) they would cancel a new policy. I finally found one company that took me for what I was and wrote policies for me.

Most of the travel insurance groups I have seen do not cover dangerous sports such as scuba diving, mountain climbing and big game hunting. ozhunter

You can go to Insuremytrip.com. You can learn everything you need to know as well as get quotes from all the major players. I used CSA and felt they gave the best bang for the buck. No offense here sir but if I thought I needed to take out insurance for the medical coverage after being mauled by a wild animal I'd likely stay home. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."
