Need help selecting a game capture dart gun?

I was asked by a South American outfitter if I would

"bring a dart gun, similar to the ones used by vets. I need that for different animals like deer of about 280 Kg or peccaries of 15 Kg."

I do not see any licensing restrictions here in the US to purchasing a dart gun for game capture.

I was hoping that some of the members of AR have experience darting/capturing wild game and would give me advice on which style/model of rifle to purchase when darting wild game weighing less than 300KG. From researching this, I see that the rifle can be hand-pumped, CO2 cartridge driven, or a powder driven rifle. I would like opinions on the pros and cons of each.

I also see that some guns also have a charge that goes inside the syringe to help inject the drug.

Thank you for your time and advice.

The one I have is a break open shotgun style, 32 ga. I even have some Fiocci shells for it. It uses a blank similar in power ranges to what you use to drive concrete nails, the stinker is the price of the little charges that inject the Rompum ( brand name). Not only are they very costly, they also would be banned as luggage I expect. The pump up dart guns dont have the range the blank fireing ones do, and even so they have a trajectory of a large hand thrown rock.

Now that the South Africa - AR party is over, I am hoping that some of you might be able to help me make a good choice about which rifle to buy.

If you have no experience in this area, do you have any contact info for anyone who is involved in the game capturing business?

Thanks.

I did considerable research several years ago for a friend in Zimbabwe and then dropped the whole thing when I found they are considered as firearms and would require an export permit. I founnd the problems for a private party to send one out of the country was almost imposssible. JUst my experience though and others may have different luck.

The recieving party has to have all their ducks in a row, then it needs only go to someone with an export lisence to ship. I think Brownells offered this at one point, not positive though.

Hi Ron L

I use a Dan-Inject co2 darting gun on my deerfarm. Im very happy with it. It uses "co2 cartridges. I have syringes that fits all species from cats to elephants.
My gun is easy to use and very accurate.
