I'n planning a few days touring in Livingstone before my buff hunt. I might be spending a few nights at the Tree Tops in the Royal Chundu and three nights at the Zambezi Waterfront lodge to see some of the sights in Livingstone and do a rafting trip on the river. Has anyone been to any of the places and is Livingstone a safe place to walk around in on your own? Any info would be appreciated.

I've been to Livingstone several times. Never had a problem with anyone.

Walk out onto the Zambezi as far as you can above the falls for a good look.

"Sobek" does white water rafting from almost beneath the falls and down to the seventh (?) rapids on a full day tour. From the Zambian side. They are the original Zambezi white water rafting company.

It is something else to look at the falls from beneath them from the lower end of the falls gorge. The Zimbabwean side companies set off from a point lower down the rapids as the water is not accessible from the Southern bank that far up. Sobek may not be setting off from the cliff face anymore but still starts the highest.

I white water rafted with them in 1988 and 1994.

For any of our Aussie or Canadian friends going over there, I've just been informed that you now need a visa to be admitted into the country. Confused

More bloody paperwork!

Donato & lb404,

I forgot to post a picture of the hut where the hunters sleep:

Just kidding of course Big Grin, you'll recognize this along the main dirt track. Peter has an awesome camp setup along the Luangwa, with a lot of game concentrated there especially later in the season when you'll be there. Cheers!

Donato,
Sobek may be the "original" rafting company, but if you want the best guides, cameramen and most professional service - have a chat to the guys from Raft Extreme. There have been a lot of changes in how things work with the rafting over the years and not all of them good. While Sobek - and all the other companies that offer the trip - fulfill all of the safety requirements and have qualified people there is a noticeable difference I think between the quality of personnel from one company to another in terms of personality and the ability to keep their customers entertained and occupied - just a personal opinion...but look into it while you are there....

Peter Chipman's concession is the Lower Lupande. I've hunted this general area, in the Upper Lupande, and it is one of the best "OLD AFRICA" areas in Southern Africa, IMO! Peter Chipman is the real McCoy, as well! Good luck to all who hunt there!
