Gunmakers Guild to Co-locate Event with DSC Convention

DALLAS - The American Custom Gunmakers Guild (ACGG) has announced it is relocating its annual exhibition to be held in conjunction with the annual convention of the Dallas Safari Club (DSC).

Previously, ACGG coordinated its event alongside a different safari show in Reno, Nev. ACGG will remain in Reno for 2012 (Jan. 20-22 at the Nugget Hotel). But beginning in 2013 the annual ACGG Gunmakers Exposition, with its public-welcome exhibits, seminars and member events, will co-locate with the annual DSC convention and expo in Dallas.

DSC's event is slated for Jan. 3-6, 2013, at the Dallas Convention Center. ACGG event details are being coordinated.

The co-location will benefit both organizations while providing another attraction for Dallas area hunters and fine gun enthusiasts as well as DSC convention attendees from around the world.

"This is exciting news because it adds another element of quality and interest to our convention and expo," said DSC Executive Director Ben Carter.

ACGG's Jan Billeb, executive director of the Cody, Wyo.-based organization, said, "We see this move as a good thing for our profession and trade. The DSC convention is always the first major sporting show of the year in the U.S., and its recent growth and expanding notoriety as the best show of its kind will offer a new audience and experience for America's custom gun makers."

Learn more about ACGG and register for its 2012 exhibition at www.acgg.org.

Yes from my pocketbook's perspective I don't know if this is a "good thing" or "bad thing"!

Actually, quite excited about it!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

I understand that some Gunmakers will be attending Dallas in 2012.

This should be a really nice addition to the DSC exhibition and something I am looking forward to seeing.

There are currently 15 spaces taken by ACGG members and we hope to have about 30 ACGG members represented in 2012, the ACGG members will be grouped together in one area near the silent auction (left side of the convention after you enter the doors). We are happy to have this nice addition to our convention.

This should be a big plus for both the ACGG and the DSC. Keep in mind though that each ACGG member makes an individual determination whether to attend and must pay their own expenses. Some members are unsure or apprehensive (to say the least) about the move to Dallas. It would be highly beneficial for those AR participants attending DSC this year to really go out of your way to make the 2012 ACGG attendees feel welcome and excited to return in 2013 with the full ACGG group.

The last time I was in Reno, a few guys from AR put together a dinner that included a couple of gunmakers and a couple of PHs. Throw into the mix some thick steaks and a liberal amount of adult beverages and we couldn't help but have a great time. As a direct result of that dinner, the PHs booked a safari for four guys and their wives. The number of guns that have been built or ordered since that dinner easily numbers in the double digits. It was great for everyone in attendence. It would be great if every gunmaker attending DSC in 2012 goes home having had the same type experience.

If we could get the ACGG members to the AR hospitality suite and have them attend Judge G's party, we could probably induce some of them to get active on AR. We'd all benefit from the ongoing dialogue.

Just some ideas for everyone to ponder...

A neighbor and friend of mine here in Durango, Marty Rabeno, is one of the founding members of the guild. Some of America's greatest firearms artists are represented in this group. This will be a great addition to the Dallas show.
