These trail cam photos were just sent to me by Roger Coomber (an AR member) and his wife Amelia. I leave Thursday to go hunt with them.
What do you think this old bull will go length wise? I don't really care as he is obviously mature and blue. Eland are high on my list this time as I have not taken one yet. I do want an old guy, and he looks like he would work. You experienced eland hunters let me know what you think about this bull though I know the photo isn't great - I cropped it from a trail cam photo.
Here is a leopard that they have photos of regularly from this site from 6/29-7/5. I know in many areas of Namibia the cats are smaller, but would you guess this to be male or female? Again, I realize the trailcam photo isn't great.
Both photos have me pretty pumped...

The eland is very old and a good one to shoot but he won't score much. I'm guessing less than 30". I'd shoot him in a minute. I'd also like to see the some other guesses.
My guess and only a guess is that the leopard is a young male.

Tim HeraldYep that was me before a major haircut( grew it out for almost a year to have it shaved for a cancer benefit at the ATA show). The buff below is the one from the show this morning...
I really expected them to use the first bull I killed on that trip as it was in much more open terrain (better footage) and had really wide bosses...
Oh well...I am not the producer...

samwiseTim my eland is the same color as your picture but not as broomed by far. Mine is 33 so I expect the one in the piocture is 28-29. Good luck!!!

Tim HeraldWe are very predominantly bowhunting. We might shoot a few animals with rifle. I am an equal opportunity shooter! If we could get a leopard hitting a bait, etc. I am happy to pick up a gun. We are taking one rifle for our group of 3 hunters. This hunt is going to be nice - I have no real certain list of animals to go by, and no real schedule to hunt by. Whatever happens is good, bow, gun, species, etc. I am really looking forward to it...

It's hard to tell, but it looks like an adult female....I don't see any nuts, but hard to tell from pic's.

Chui is hard to tell.. not a giant cat, but definately not a juvenile and I am going to say he is a male by his head size, but as Wolfgar says his male parts are not showing...That eland is a old warrior... His horns are worn and has a super mature coloration to skin and that big hairy forehead... He is also going to be much bigger body size then the buf...

I hate TC Contenders (or whatever they're called) as a matter of basic aesthetic principle. For crying out loud, get a Farquharson, will you please?
That cat is a youngster and needs to grow up. (Not a joke, I mean this.)
But that's a good buff.
And that old eland bull would be DRT if I could get a clean shot.

L. David KeithTim, I think that bull might fool you. I estimate he will break 30 inches. IMHO, I think your looking at a mature female Leopard. Look at the head size; length of its neck, and the way it carries its tail. Just my 2 cents. Have a great hunt and I'll probably call you before you leave.

Lhook7That eland looks a lot like the one I shot with Vaughan Fulton a couple of years ago in Namibia. If I remember right he measured 29".

Got me thinking...
What time was the leopard photo taken? By the shadows was it late afternoon? Unusual to see them in sunlight.
What part of Namibia?
Does the leopard have something in his mouth? Hard to tell from my computer.

Tim HeraldWolfgar - it was 4:40PM. Most of the other photos were at night. I think it has a bird in its mouth.

I hunted for leopard in Kamanjab and surrounding area for 20 days and never saw one on bait.
If you are serious about getting one, make sure that your PH knows what the hell he's doing and pay him to do some serious pre-baiting for you....without that, IMO your chances are not too good for a shot.
BTW, some huge males come out of that region, so good luck!

The deal is, if we have a leopard in I can shoot it, this was really booked as a PG hunt. It would be a great bonus though. I have some other serious leopard hunts in the works for next year or 2010.
