I have just booked a ten day Buff/PG hunt in Zimbabwe for July with Charlton McCallum Safaris (PH Alan Shearing). We will be hunting the Charara area out of their Makuti camp.
I have only ever heard glowing reports about the outfit team so I'm very much looking forward to the trip.
Can anyone give me any info on this hunting area or camp?

I have hunted Charara forn each of the last 2 years. The place is loaded with buffalo and big tuskers. Occaisional lion and leopard also. Be aware that some of the area is very hilly(mountainous?) and this past year I felt like I was sheep hunting rather than buffalo hunting. A new experience for me.

R.Jolly,

I wondered what the cryptic post meant until I saw the other thread.

My fiance and I are getting married in Victoria Falls in late july, then going to Makuti with Alan for buff/sable on August 1st. Good luck on your hunt.

Seems we'll share the same place. My cousin and I are due to hunt at the same moment with Myles.
good luck

Alan's wife was the camp manager for my elephant hunt so Alan hung around as he was in between safaris. While I didn't get to hunt with him I can vouch that they are both terrific people.
