I'm curious to see how many AR members, especially those who hunt in Africa, have been awarded the Distinguished Rifleman Badge. I earned mine 30 years ago, in 1985. I was the 578th civilian to earn it, since it was originated in 1884. Here's what they look like: Jesus saves, but Moses invests

Qualified six times (one pr year) after taking the gold. To qualifie for the Gold Medal one have to qualifie six times (one pr year), so two stars means that I have qualified totally 12 years. Arild Iversen.

Bud, I made Master Class and was working on High Master when other obligation took precedence. Also shot NRA week at Perry several times with some OK scores. Never shot many LEG matches so I never became distinguished. You probablylegged out with a MIA shooting issued ammo. Anyway, congratulations, it is tough to become Distinguished.

LARRY: I earned it over a period of several years by winning or placing high in both military and civilian rifle matches. Specifically, I placed high in a Regional Match in Vermont, then the Fifth Army Rifle match at Fort Riley, KS, then the Illinois State Rifle Championship, then the All Army Rifle Championship at Fort Benning, GA, and finally at the National Matches at Camp Perry, OH. The first several matches I was a Captain in the U.S. Army, shooting an M-14 for the All-Army Rifle Team. The final match at Camp Perry I was a civilian shooting an M-1A, which is the civilian equivalent of an M-14. Here are some of my shooting medals. The bottom two rows are all from the National Matches at Camp Perry, OH and the top rows are all from State Championship matches I won. Jesus saves, but Moses invests

That is a fine accomplishment, indeed. Congratulations! Luckily for me, however, for most hunting, and especially African hunting, all one needs to be able to do is hit a basketball at 100 yards or so off a solid rest! Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

The story goes that Blackjack Pershing preferred they not be there so he assigned them to the unlikely Belleau Wood. The Germans were accustomed to advancing to 400 yards from the American lines before coming under rifle fire. This day they began dropping at 600 yards and could not understand what was happening. By 400 yards out they were undergoing a slaughter. They then turned and retreated only to be pursued following the order "fix bayonets". These new type of soldier became known as "devil dogs" to the German soldiers. We call them Marines. Every one a rifleman. Semper Fidelis

Although it happened a long time ago, I only got to know about it now, so CONGRATULATIONS! How jealous I am of you living in a country where the Government recognizes good, and even rewards excellent, marksmanship. Here the Government wants to take our firearms away! Fortunately for us - at least in this case it is fortunate - our Government has a very good record of achieving nothing that they set out to do! Enjoy the memories, and living in the USA! Lack of skills – by practice. Lack of experience – by time doing it. One cannot cure: Stupidity – nothing helps! Anti hunting sentiments – nothing helps! Put-‘n-Take Outfitters – money rules! Fairgame, That was hilarious. I almost lost the chew in my lip laughing so damn hard. Reminds me of when I was shooting bowling pins with a revolver and my big fat friend wearing shorts walks up to them with a 12 gauge shotgun and says this is how you do it and blasts them. He then starts screaming and dancing as blood trickles out of several spots on his legs from the pellets bouncing back and hitting him. Don't take me wrong, I don't wish anybody to get hurt but sometimes you got to learn the hard way. Scott

One of the benefits of being a decent shot is the PH may allow you to shoot varmints like jackels and baboons at longer range, and maybe even a couple of culls as long as you shoot them in the head Jesus saves, but Moses invests
