Did anyone watch Dangerous Game last night? I couldn't believe it, some pseudo-celebrity (I think they said he had been in the '80s band Mister Mister) was on a leopard hunt in Tanzania. They got a leopard to hit the bait, but the hunter was scared to stay in the blind at night. He said he was too uncomfortable, couldn't sleep without snoring, his chronic cough was going to scare away the leopard, and he didn't like the thought of lions being around the blind. The client left the blind and went back to camp, but asked the PH to stay and shoot the leopard for him which he did. I can't believe they even aired this show.

Lhook7,
If you are right I didn't miss much. I wonder sometimes who these people are that run these so called hunting shows. It seems they are out of touch with reality.

I saw it when it originally aired a few weeks ago and posted about it then. Very strange.

I saw it....rather anti-climatic. I guess he made a bunch of $$ while in the band(s) and just wanted a wall hanger? I wouldn't want it if I hadn't shot it....as a matter of fact, I wouldn't want the PH to shoot it either...unless I was with him and it wanted to scalp one of us.... Roll Eyes..because I screwed up. Not one of DG's best episodes.

Actually the PH shot the leopard for himself, at least when I saw the episode aired. The long-haired guy (rock star?) made the call to bail out 15 minutes (too) early due to inability to supress his cough. Sounds like a choice wisely made, regretted later on only because fifteen lousy minutes more and he'd have been in the right place at the right time. I believe the urgency was to remove a stock killer leopard. I seem to remember it being a big 'un.

Of course, I could have blinked or my ears may have waggled. I'll be 50 in a month...

I actually watched it twice last night because I couldn't believe what I saw the first time. I was cooking when it was showing the first time, so I thought there must be some kind of extenuating circumstance which I had missed. It turned out the only thing I had missed was a poorly read monologue in which the client was trying to justify his actions.

Maybe they will stick with the '80s band motif and next week we can watch Boy George hunt elephant.

Yes, I watched it, sick, disgusting, can't believe they showed it. Guy should be proud, but I blame the PH as well. I think he should have refused the "honor".

I am just guessing that the pressure to get a kill for the show was too much for someone -- whether client or PH I do not know.

Last season Dangerous Game was the best safari show on the air. Why, because they took the client out of the picture and concentrated on the hunting by using PHs (mostly Doug McNeil) as the "client".

This season, the show is mostly about the client. Including way too much of a former Mrs. Nebraska for my taste. Too much focus on the personality and way too little on the hunting. Long monologues by Mrs. Nebraska about her "feelings" are not why I watch a hunting show.

Regards,

Terry

P.S.
If that frickin "rock star" had mugged into the camera one more time, I would have shot him and thereby permanently ended his angst about coughing at the wrong time and scaring the leopard.

I saw no need for the PH to shoot that leopard. Just photograph it and let it go.

I believe there were two shows with her, the one I remember the most was where she shot a lioness and darted a rhino with Tam Safaris in South Africa.

I TIVO all these shows and then put them on a DVD. With Dangerous Game, I just watch and then delete them.

I forgot to mention the show with the artist, John Banovich. 80% about John (including interviews with his wife - who was at home in Montana) and 20% about buffalo huting.

Regards,

Terry

So, it's Cindy Garrison vs. Mrs. Nebraska? Maybe that's why Versus got their own blond celebrity; in order to compete with ESPN's Get Wild With Cindy Garrison. Must have been something to the viewership polls in order to have Mrs. Nebraska appear more than once.

From the OLN (www.versus.tv) website:

"Rock & Roll guitarist Steve Farris travels to Zimbabwe for a nail-biting leopard night-hunt. After first hunting plains game for bait, Steve and professional hunter Zane Vandermer begin the days-long wait. Outstanding night-vision photography, Steve's quick humor in the face of extreme danger, and an unexpected turn-of-events make this episode a must-see."

Clearly something wrong with those folks.

Oops! I sit corrected. Me, I watch as someone grateful to see anything on TV done in Africa -- homesick, I guess. Remember when 'Wild Kingdom" was the only hope -- "American Sportsman" was too fuzzy for rabbit ears reception, but sometimes I'd try to see what Curt Gowdy was all het up about. Glad there's enough economic incentive / our interest = dollars for the advertizers to bother filming it.

Just an old mission kid's viewpoint...

I saw the show with the artist and it was boring for me. I thought his wife was with him during part of the hunt. At least I saw some women during the hunt or I sure think I saw one.

I agree with most here. The show's gone downhill since last year. With Cidy Garrison at least one knows what's expected and she does her own killing, yeah I like to watch her too. But this Dangerous game show now is BS. The one with the lion charge was pretty good I must admit, but the one with Mrs. Nebraska was really bad. jorge

Huh? Quick humor (mugging into the camera) - extreme danger (maybe in his drug addled mind).

The woman with Banovich wasn't his wife (I believe she was his business manager or agent). His wife was at home when they interviewed her about John.

All of this years shows have been bad. I could care less about personalitys and feelings. The lion charge was pretty good, but it wasn't filmed by Versus.
However if they can get Miss Nebraska to take her top off it may pick up. Big Grin

It's MRS. Nebraska, not Miss, and you'd have to get her husband to agree on that one. We already had one woman show off her boobs with a crocodile and that was distasteful and unprofessional at best, both on the woman's part and on her professional hunter's part.

Hey, maybe I'm getting hyper-sensitive with all the canned lion talk on the forum, but it looked like Miss Nebraska might have taken just such an animal. Maybe I'm wrong and I have no other knowledge of the outfitter being featured, but I know it was in SA and the male lion that they took was awfully clean and seemed pretty clueless. I also seemed to remember the PH mentioning something about about lions being relocated. Hey, if I'm wrong my humble apologizies to Miss Nebraska, but I agree the this show has taken a downturn for the worse.

GL- Do a search and you should be able to come up with a thread that discusses that SA lion hunt in detail. The consensus seems to be that that operator somehow manages to end up with several "cattle killers" each year.

I thought the lion special was very good. Ronnie Cous makes one of the best charging lion shots I've ever seen. The lion ends up dead but his momentum knocks Cous down. Some great footage. I think on these shows you have to see a lot to get to a few gems. The lion charge is a gem.

Guys,

I didn't watch the show but if we are talking about the video where Ronnie Crous is knocked down by the lion there is nothing canned about it. He wrote this up for a RSA mag and even made comment on AR through a member on the discussion of what happened. A female client wounded the lion and Ronnie, Calitz and I believe 2 others cleaned up the mess.

I haven't seen the charging lion show, but, in my opinion, "Dangerous Game" has really went down hill this year. When McNeil was on it was undoubtly (to me) the best show on TV. Now, I don't think I'll watch anymore if it continues the quality I've seen so far this season.

Tracks Across Africa has taken the number 1 position in my opinion.

I've been watching some of the episodes I had recorded. I agree that the Botswana hunt with Johan Caltiz and Ronnie Crous (et al.) did not seen canned in any way. But I wondered about the large full-maned male that just happened to be walking around in the next segment (not the bowhunting from the machan, but the next hunt) that the client (a booking agent?) shot. Was that with TAM or another outfit? The rhino darting and lioness hunt did not do much for me -- they just sort of walked around until they found a lion and lioness to shoot? There was blood on the hindquarter of the lioness when they walked up to her -- I suppose she must have spun around when she was hit.

NOTE: I am not casting aspersions on TAM, the televison show or the hunters. I just thought the Botswana segments in the lion special were more interesting than the other parts of that show and the green Rhino/lioness show. Maybe my attention span is too short and I just missed key details.

You are right. I remember now and his wife should not worry about all those nights away with the business partner as she is way better looking.
