Who have you guys used for trip insurance if it was not through a booking agent/consultant, etc.?

I am just about to put down a deposit on an AK Brown Bear hunt for August 2009. That far out, any thing can happen, and it is pretty darn expensive, so I want to back myself up...thanks in advance...TH

Tim, check with SCI if you are a member, if not a member then join and then check it out. They have several sources available for Trip, Medivac, and Gun/equipment insurance at really good rates. This service alone is worth the price of admission (SCI).

Tim,

See Insure My Trip for a comparison of companies.

See also Gracy Travel they are agents for one aimed at "Sportsmen".

I've bought insurance twice [Travelgard I think] but never have had to make a claim so have no idea how good they are.

Hi Tim,

TravelGuard is pretty good. They offer cancellation and medical evac insurance and just med evac alone. Pricing, which is usually pretty decent, is based on your age and total hunt costs.

We have had many clients who have used them and have no complaints. We had one client that needed to cancel due to an emergency and made a claim with them. I didn't hear of any problems.

You can go to: Travel Guard

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I used TravelGuard for the 8 safaris I made. Never had to make a claim. I used it the last few trips just for the Medical coverage. Very reasonably priced, but if I remember correctly it really goes up if you stay over 30 days. Last 2 trips I made were both for 2 months each and I had to make some cuts in coverage, don't remember exactly what the problem was but cost went up quite a bit and coverage went down I believe.
