Don, I know that JJHack is one American whom is licenced in SA .... Tink Nathan used to be licenced for bowhunting in particular, but has since returned to the USA ... I would hazard a guess that in SA proberbly less than half a dozen would be licenced whom dont actually reside there permanently !!! Regards, Peter

Add to that Jeff Rann in Botswana and Jason Roussos in Ethiopia. Jason was born and raised in Ethiopia but educated in the USA and holds an American passport. Rich Elliott ------------------

There are several I know of besides those mentioned thus far. George Hoffman, who posts here was licensed in Botswana and Tanzania. I assume he still is? Ridge Taylor and his nephew Cash have an operation in Tanzania. Mark Sullivan is still doing his thing, Doug Scandrol has PH'ed for years in Zambia and Tanzania. I'm sure there are several more!

Steve Tors is a long-time Namibia PH, and hunts for Jan Oelofse. There are also a fair number of French PHs hunting in the francophone areas, and some others as well. jim dodd ------------------

I think most of the best-known American PHs operating in Africa have been mentioned. Personally, I've hunted with Sullivan and Tors, and I'd gladly do so again. Both gave me more than my money's worth while on safari, both treated me better than I probably deserved to be treated, and I'd be happy to hunt with either one of them again. I wish I could have timed my African hunting in a better manner in order to have hunted with George Hoffman. That I regret very deeply. Sullivan's better than his reputation - and by a country mile - but the only guys who seem to know that are the guys who've hunted with him. Mark's been straight and true with me from teh beginning, as has been his family, and the man's knocked himself into the ground on my behalf while on safari. What more could I possibly ask of him than that? The unsung hero who deserves a lot more notoriety than he gets is Steve Tors. This gentleman is beyond description as far as I'm concerned. He's a great PH in every way; he's worked for Jan Oelofse for over twenty-five years, and he gives you his very best day-in and day-out. In that part of Africa, between the hospitality of Jan's family and the professionalism of Steve Tors, I'd be hard-pressed to want to hunt with any other outfit. AD

I have to second what Allen Day said about Steve Tors. He has hunted lots of dangerous game in the Caprivi and is a tremendous plains game ph. He gives 100% and that is all you ask. We hunted Eland for 6 days and walked and crawled enough to take 10 but we were constantly unlucky. He never once showed any fatigue or agravation just kept on going. The very next day we hunted Mountain Zebra in a mountainous concession 4 hours away. All I can say was according to Steve, "Godzilla lives here" he once again did a tremendous job. Mike
