Die Ou JagterMoz Lion hunt
Don't want to start a "pissing" discussion about canned vs wild Lions. I saw the Dangerous Game show last night where Gerald Mc Raney (sp) hunted lion in Moz unsucessfully - it was a good show. I enjoyed it even with change of hat wear from ball cap in camp to Pith helmet in the field.

MJinesI liked the pith helmet. I enjoy his perspective and commentary, certainly over Chris Dorsey. Having been skunked on lion myself this year, I could relate to his disappointment . . . and his perspective after tracking the lions that in the end that is largely what the hunt is all about, being in the chase, feeling the tension and emotion and sometimes, yes, even disappointment.

Die Ou JagterDoes that mean you are going to have a pith helmet for your next African hunt? Maybe we could start a sub AR group "We hunted in Pith Helmets"

pagosawingnutDon't worry DOJ, you can buy them in the airport in Joberg.

MJinesNot likely, but I do own two. I think if I decide to hunt with one next year I will wear the British Calvary style pith helmet though.

Die Ou JagterI like the BC type better than the VN model.

Safari2I did not see the episode..do you know what area and safari operator Mr. McRaney was hunting with in Moz?

MJinesNext year, I think we need to suggest to Podwika that he wear one in the vintager's double rifle shoot. Maybe all of the contestants should be required to wear them.

Die Ou JagterSound good to me.

Safari2, sorry I don't remember.

Use Enough GunIt was a good show.

I like Gerald McRaney. I can't stand the pud Dorsey.

What an cock/ass he is. His voice, antics, self serving dialogue, and mannerisms are like fingernails on a chalkboard for me.

In addition, I found his lost credit card at SCI a few years back and tracked him down to return it. He treated me worse than hired help and didn't even say thanks.

Die Ou JagterUEG, I record all the African shows and sometimes you get a winner. They are easy to erase if you don't want to view the show once it starts.

Dutch44I share Use Enough Guns perspective on Dorsey although I'll stick to my ball cap. Retreever would look rather daper in that Pithy helmet.

Use Enough GunCome on Mike, you and Cherie would look fantastic in those outfits while hunting next safari with Pierre Van Tonder in Tanzania!

DOJ: I do just that: when I hear Dorsey's voice or see his face, I stop the recording and erase the damn thing!

AnotherAZWriterI like the shows where the outcome is not always known. I would rather watch 100 unsuccessful lion hunts than one canned hunt.

AnotherAZWriterAs for Dorsey, he wrote a story that got me interested in African hunting. I know he is a writer from back in the day, as well as a DU director (or something).
Unlike Boddington, Dorsey, and others, Makris seems to come from the PR world.
I just Googled him to see if could get his bio and got this every interesting letter:
http://www.alphadogweb.com/fir...ctor_russ_howard.htmThe letter is very old (nearly 15 years) but certainly not very flattering.
If you Google Makris, NRA and PR you will find that Makris apparently has made millions from the NRA.

Todd WilliamsI'm up for an AR "pith helmet" hunt! Got one ready to go. Just say when!
Agree on McRaney. Good guy! Dorsey, well .... !

Die Ou JagterWell I see that green head raised again, "If you Google Makris, NRA and PR you will find the Makris apparently has made millions from the NRA." My God it sounds almost like Obama, just can't stand anothers sucess.

AnotherAZWriterDOJ:
I have no trouble with anyone's success. I have long said I admire Larry Shores success, for example, or Dan Duncan, even though he shot a moose from a helicopter. I admire anyone who has a built a business that allows him/her to hunt the way without asking for anything for free. One thing I am not a fan of are my NRA dollars or SCI dollars paying for someone else's hunts. I work too hard for that.
I was completely unaware of this "controversy" - perhaps I have been on Mars. But I was stunned that there are so much accusations of a "cozy" relationship between Makris and the NRA. Frankly, for a director to resign over this is troubling to me.
Did you read the letter? It isn't the only piece out there.
05 December 2012, 16:26
Die Ou JagterI read the letter from 1997. As I understand it Mr Makris is no longer associated with that firm, I could be wrong. I still like Tony's show. Of course all this has nothing o do with the original subject, but what else is new.

Ditto in spades. I was talking to Craig Boddington at DSC Sat night event (when I was still active duty and in my mess dress too!) and this guy comes in and starts talking as if I wasn't there, so I stepped right in his way and say, excuse me ace, I'm not done. I told Craig we'd talk later and walked away.
