Please list the names and contact information for any videographers you would recommend for filming a Zimbabwean bull elephant hunt in '09.

I used Richard Rauch (he spends his time between Vic Falls and Bulawayo) on my last hunt and he did an excellent job. PM if you'd like his contact info.

Shot Productions based in South Africa. One of the very best. They will be at Reno SCI if you are going. You could talk to them personally and they usually have a highlight DVD of their work. Big Bore productions uses them for their commerical hunting DVD's

Justin Drainer, who videos for Buzz Charlton, has done a great job on my last two hunts. He had nerves of steel and keeps the film rolling when things get hairy. Great guy in camp too.

Alan Vincent has been making all our videos. I have known him since he was about 6, when I first hunted with his father.

He is currently conducting hunts in Tanzania, but has his own video campany, which does a lot of work for some of the well known outfits in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and Tanzania.

He can be contacted on the following numbers.

+263 11 219 156 (mobile)
+263 9 259 760 (office)

Highly recommended.

Another vote here for Justin! He filmed my ele/buff hunt last November. I was very pleased with the footage and he is a very nice guy as well.

Shaun Buffee / Buzz Charlton. He stood and filmed a cow ele that charged Alan Shearing and me this June. He does first class work and is fun to have along, I highly recommend him.

I hired Shaun Buffee on my last safari. He has his own safari company now, Acacia Safaris.

I must say that I consider Ian Lewis, the finest Safari videographer that I have ever seen... BAR NONE.

He videoed all 3 of my Safaris in Zimbabwe...

Many times we were, what most people here on AR,[and some have PMed me with their critisms] would consider WAY TO DANGER CLOSE to elephants. I shot 4 at less than 6 yards.

Many time we had false charges where the elephants kicked dirt on us. I have had elephant trunks over the top of my head. Eeker

I have been surrounded by the Psycotic 60 in the SAVE a few times. Eeker BOOM

I have shot cape buff at 12 yards.

He NEVER WAVERED. He very seldom missed "the good frame".

And he was a great fella to have in Camp around the fire as well.

Sadly he has moved from Zimbabwe and is as far as I know out of the Safari Business.

Still when I go back, a "kidnapping" may be in order, after all I do have some "special training", I just may have to put it to some use.

He is "THAT GOOD".

I second MJines choice. Justin, also. was my videographer in Zim a couple of years ago and did a great job. Best camera work was on the elephant hunts.

I'd be carefull about using Shaun Buffee. He might be a great photographer, and all, but I was suppose to do a baited leopard hunt with him (and his Acacia Safaris) and now that website is no longer accessible and at the recommendation of his brother, Ryan, a partner in their Acacia Safaris, my hunt was cancelled this past June by them in Zim and Ive been trying (waiting on my part) to get my deposit monies refunded back from them. I have gotten about half back, but the rest I don't know about yet. Any emails I have sent to either brother in the last few months don't get answered and the phone numbers I had earlier in the year that worked, get me nowhere now. This is my experience only with him(them). Others might be doing fine.

Bwana Bunduki,

Cannot speak for other outfitters, but I know that Charlton McCallum charges $150/day for raw footage and $50/day for editing (the editing you can have done or forego and just keep the raw footage at your election). From my perspective, that is an incredible value and I regret only having my last two hunts filmed and not all of my hunts. They are using HD cameras and as I noted above the videographers that they use -- in particular Justin Drainer -- are top notch. The editor is great guy too, he is in Atlanta and is the same fellow that did the editing on Buzz's two DVDs.

bisonhunter1,

My understanding is that Shaun Buffee is actually a qualified PH that hunts for Martin Pieters at present. He still does filming for other outfitters like Charlton McCallum on a contract basis, but I know that he does not and has not been a PH for them.

The very one. Justin Drainer, aka Agent Orange, aka Timbersnake.
