For those attending the convention - anyone attend any of the evening events?

Planning on attending a couple. Unless covid intervenes in one way or the other.

I just bought a ticket for the Friday nite event.. Should be a fun event and it certainly is better than eating dinner alone...

Three out of four. Skipped the country music and "Night of the Hunter" stuff. Not interested in awards shows, and if it ain’t Hank Williams (Sr.), Ray Price, Hank Snow or Jim Reeves, or Patsy Cline, then it ain’t country. Big Grin

Going to do something off-site that night (not gambling).

I’m not much of an awards show person either, but… one of the AR regulars and friend will be recognized in a non-hunting capacity on Wednesday night (won’t mention his name because he might not know and he wouldn’t want me to say, if he did) and I plan on being at that banquet.

No doubt there will be a lot of highly paid speakers and bands at SCI per usual. Proud that DSC never has to "pay' for our speakers, they come because they believe in the DSC Mission, and volunteer their time and talents to support it. As for bands, I'm happy that DSC and the DSC Foundation will put our money into grants that make a difference, not waste it on such nonsense. Also,I am missing all the fear from a few posters that accompanied every post and comment leading up to the DSC show. Is the Vegas Covid not as intimidating at the banquets and convention as it was in Dallas?

I don't understand the need for unsolicited slams against another hunting convention..

Oh that's right - you just don't like SCI.. I get it.. "Our show is better than your show" mantra.

So.........don't attend!

Scott,

Thats just the feeling I have had for years watching SCI take shots at Dallas, and not just members, SCI brass. I will not, as a matter of fact, be attending the SCI convention. Two years ago, despite being such a major SCI hunt donor that we were once in the top SCI 25,and thus had a premier booth location, lack of attendance and sales forced us to come to the conclusion that the SCI show was no longer worth the expense, time, or investment in manpower. And speaking of UNSOLICITED, that sure describes the SCI brass, your top leadership, attending the DSC show who were quietly whispering to our vendors that SCI would be happy to provide free booths, or expand booths at no charge if they would just come to Vegas! They made the mistake of doing so with several vendors who contacted DSC board members to report the unacceptable behavior. Cannot wait to see the reaction of the folks who DID PAY when that word gets out, and it is already making the rounds. Stones... Sounds like SCI is perfectly positioned to, as they claim each year, break all sales and attendance records.

Dave and Scott or Scott and Dave

Maybe you two could start a new thread on DSC vs SCI or SCI vs DSC bashing.

You are right.. Point taken and accepted..

I actually don't want to get into bashing either one. I'm glad we have both...

My apologies...

Not quite true, DSC has in the past paid speakers…I’ve signed some the checks. Also, many speakers and probably all speakers receive comped hotel rooms (and I think they should) plus airfare from their home city or country and free hotel room for 4 or 5 days plus free airfare for speaking for an hour or so. Not exactly being “paid” but damned close to it. I suspect most other organizations do the same.

I am not much on posting on threads but I do read and find many topics of great interest which keep me informed from like minded people. The reason I decided to speak up is there is a ridiculous comment being made about SCI not paying there speakers. If anyone on this thread is weak minded enough to believe Donald Trump Jr.,Tucker Carlson or Larry the Cable Guy are free there living in a fantasy world. As for DSC paying speakers maybe in the old days under the old guard. Those people are long gone and the current leadership uses the organizations funds for our Misson,Conservation,Education and Advocacy.DSC doesn’t have to pay our speakers to speak on topics related to our Misson, we have many to choose from whom deliver beautiful speeches. We also try to stay away from political speakers there just raising money for themselves not our mission. In closing I am a life member of several conservation organizations,SCI being one of them but we must encourage them to spend there hard earned funds on much needed grants and not for entertainment and political speeches. We have many exhibitors from all over the world whom are very qualified to deliver beautiful speeches and are willing to do so at no cost.

Don’t forget that the funds you speak of were made available by the “old guard”.
Including the “rainy day” fund. Hope it’s not squandered.
