killpc I have lurked on this sight for some time. WOW the opinions and experience represented here has taught me so much about our sport. I want to go to Africa to hunt PG. My thoughts are to not stay in a five star place with fine wine and mints on my pillow. The Mrs will have to stay home and run the farm. I have one buddy that has been saving $ for such a trip so there would be two hunters we would both like to have a nice trophy on the wall but the record books are not our priority. We would more than likely only have our best animal mounted and do euro mounts on anything else that we got. we are not cheap by any means and like nice things but the first time we are after fair chase outdoor adventure and need some advise. please accept my respect and thanks for all the useful posts that are on this sight and If you ever served in the military thank you!!!

Tanglewood - check out Save Safaris in Zimbabwe. Leon Du Plessis and Mike Payne to a first rate job, and there is a good variety of plains game - impala, waterbuck, kudu, nyala, eland, bushbuck, sable, warthog and all the small stuff for starters. Since the Save is private land, there is no requirment for a Government Game Scout. Another plus is no Tsetse flies in the Conservancy. Food and accomadations are very nice as well. Check out their website - it may match what you are looking for.

Welcome Joe. Some additional information on what really interests you would help steer folks in the right direction on making recommendations. For example, are you just interested in plains game? Dangerous game, and if so which one? How long would you be talking about hunting 7 days, 10 days, 14 days, longer?

Go to Namibia, in the northwest. Areas often in the 100,000 plus acres. For sure free range. Not as much game as on the game farms, but it is awesome country. No matter where I go in Africa, I always want to go back to northwest Namibia.

Joe,

The first thing to decide is what animals you want to hunt, that will tell you what countries to go and will narrow your search down.

Here's where we hunted in 2008. Good people, and great packages.

If you wanted to do a DG/plains game hunt, here's who my son and I hunted with last August. Also a great outfit.

Zambia is great for PG and has more of a choice than Zim. However we are more pricey and for the first timer maybe Namibia would be an option and here you can hunt some of the finest of antelope amongst some truly fantastic scenery.

The advice I give my first time Africa friends is to skip the ranches and the 5days 16 animals trips and try to go to some wilder parts of Africa and maybe for 2-3 pg animals instead.

For only plains game South Africa and Namibia are best. Namibia has the advantage of low or no fence hunting. Look at NAPHA website for links to many websites and information. South Africa has an amazing number of hunting operations. Trophy fees can be comparatively high but daily rates are low. Inquire with one or more of the better hunt brokers to either arrange your hunt or help with your hunt education.
