I am in the process of finalizing a Cape Buffalo hunt in Masiland, either Lobo or Lolkisale for 2010 and would appreciate any insight you may have.

What would be your preference: 1) Lobo hunt would be during the first half of November or 2) Lolkisale hunt middle to end of December.

Appreciate any assistance you can offer!

Thanks,

jjs

Jim,
I'd take Lolkisale in late December. Considering you're going with your bride, aesthetics are important and I found Lolkisale to be generally more scenic. Hunting should be comparable for either option. If the short rains are late though, you could be left high and dry in Lobo.

Hope this helps but keep in mind I was there before Adam moved and dramatically improved the Lobo camp.

Forrest

.... and what an "aesthetic" bride she is!

I know nothing about either place, but I'm wondering what temperature will be at Christmas time?

jjs , i woyuld take the later dates in loilkisale , its very very scenic at that time of the year , not such a great view from the camp but wide open plains and full of game as soon as the rains come , by late december the rains will be there ...

I'd choose Lolkisale in December also. Lobo can offer more interesting hunting due to thicker bush and more varied terrain, but I'd count on the rains to green everything up and pull the game out of the park at which time Lolkisale would be an Eden. Below is a report from my 05 hunt. Regards, Bill

My wife and I hunted Lolkisale in late August, two years ago, when the Buffalo had returned to the park but we still took 40" and 41" bulls with heavy boss and nice deep drop and curls-mature animals.

We did see two nice herds of buffalo near Lobo headed back to the park with a couple of huge bulls 50" or close to.

I learned one thing booking with Adam Clement's Bundu Safari's tell him what you want and he will tell you the real facts. I believe he will not locate you where you will not have an opportunity to kill what you want. In other words I don't believe he will just locate you to fill his camps.

Our PH Paul Horsley grew up in that area and said each has it's own personality but are both very much huntable anytime of the year if you know "how" to hunt each area during that particular part of the year.

I know Adam has a very good relationship with the local Masi but after watching Paul he is a step above having grown up with many of the people we met and spent time with.

The great thing about Paul is he can give you a great hunt and the unique perspective that only a person who has spent his life there can.

I believe either area will offer you a great expereince in late season or anytime. I personally would probably take the Lokisale dates in December because if the stars align you'll think Robert Ruark and Selby could be camped in the the next bunch of shade trees.

I'd second that... the rains will have greened things up and the big buff should be out of the Tarangire Park! Only drawback would be if it was too wet and travel is hampered. I hunted the area in November of '03 and followed Forrest after he finished up his safari. Rains weren't timely and buff were almost nonexistant in Lolkisale. Shot a decent 40" bull in Lobo. My understanding is Adam has put in a couple of permanent sources of water in Lolkisale so it should not be as "hit or miss" as it was back then.

I took my family to Lolkisale in August of 2006. It's all i've seen, but it was wonderful. Adam's group did an outstanding job.
