Care2 subscriber since Apr 29, 2011 Unsubscribe | Tell Your Friends | Take Action you have 0 butterfly credits Despite the fact that elephants are beautiful, endangered animals, the King of Spain still thought it was appropriate to participate in an elephant hunt a few weeks ago. Tell Spain's King that this is not how reigning monarchs should behave. » Don Juan Carlos I has apologized to his country for taking part in an African elephant hunt at a time when Spanish unemployment has soared to 23 percent. But he has not sent a strong message that killing threatened or endangered animals is wrong. Elephants in Africa are disappearing at an alarming rate--specifically because of hunting. In particular, the trade in illegal ivory, derived from elephant tusks, is thriving. The Spanish King has sent an irrevocable message that elephant hunting is glamorous and cool. This is not the kind of message that a sovereign of any civilized country should be sending. Ask the Spanish king to issue a clear statement that hunting large, rare animals is irresponsible. » Thanks for taking action! Kathleen, you know not what you speak of! You miss the truth by such a wide margin that any explanation of the true facts to you will only be a waste of time. Andrew McLaren Professional Hunter and Hunting Outfitter since 1974. http://www.mclarensafaris.com The home page to go to for custom planning of ethical and affordable hunting of plains game in South Africa! Enquire about any South African hunting directly from andrew@mclarensafaris.com After a few years of participation on forums, I have learned that: One can cure: Lack of knowledge – by instruction. Lack of skills – by practice. Lack of experience – by time doing it. One cannot cure: Stupidity – nothing helps! Anti hunting sentiments – nothing helps! Put-‘n-Take Outfitters – money rules! My very long ago ancestors needed and loved to eat meat. Today I still hunt!

My signature and message was delivered to the King of Spain, according to the site. The message ads 'impact' to the signature, according to the blurb. Here is my message: "Get your facts right: 1. Elephant numbers are diminishing because of poaching, not hunting. 2. Elephant numbers are increasing because of hunting and it attempts to balance the loss from poaching. 3. Where do you see that elephant numbers are threatened or protected? This is not true and casts a shadow over the rest of the 'facts' given on this site. 5. The fact that I had to 'sign' the petition to get the truth revealed is worth it, because the petition is worthless."

If you want the truth of Botswana elephants, read the article by Ron Thomson in the May issue of "African Outfitter." Oh dear Gerard, now you are going to get every petition under the sun, for ever and a day.

Here is what to do. The first email that comes from them should contain an 'unsubscribe' link. I will use it to unsubscribe. If they send further emails, they are spamming and will be reported to their service provider. Maybe it is worth looking at their registration details with whichever registrar the are. If there is anything wrong with the registration details, the registrar must act against them or risk the ire of ICANN.

So you base you knowledge on one article, from a guy dedicating his life to show how distructive elephants are. Secondly you base your knowledge an information on one country only. What about elephant populations in the Kruger park for example? They are currently double the allowing carrying capacity? What about the fact that elephant breeding/numbers on privately owned ranches in south Africa have drastically increased over the last 8 years? Read the friggen article, it actually refers to Kruger. My knowledge based on one article. Do you know me? jjbull Zero butterflys, maybe that is because I have never responded to them but as a concerned hunter and conservationist, I have an interest in seeing what they come up with. A case of knowing thine enemy and not underestimating them. Another two anonymous members with zero public profile.
