I like the Ruger rsm but its in 416 rigby .I have to have a remington 416.I am thinking about reboring a 375 H&H Ruger rsmIt suck now 416 Winchester which were $650 6 years ago are $3000 now.I got mine for $625 6 years ago. They only made about 125 416 rem mag model 70s a year.Remington makes a stainless 416 rem mag but hardly ever actually makes one.I dont know why they dont have a standard 416 rem mag.It would sell with the winchesters gone. The ruger rsm is awesome but I have to have 416 rem mag.I have too much 416 rem mag brass and dont want 416 Rigby brass to mix up with my 338-378 brass.Plus its something else to buy and find.

I'd rather take up the task of hunting dangerous game with archery equipmant than stoop to the practice of hunting with a Ruger. Archery is far more reliable.

There's no end of used M-70 rifles available and a new barrel attached to a pre-64 or a late model classic is not at all a bad option. As a matter of fact I'd far rather have a "tweaked" M-70 classic in .416 Remmy than a new one. At least that way you can get it the way you really want it. Add the sights you want...the weight barrel you want and restock it the way you want.

One can also make a fine 416 rem using a commercial FN as a base as well and this too can be had like a whopper from the Burgerking....."Have it your way".

Life is too short to hunt with an ugly gun.....Mausers and M-70s are not that ever.

I've owned a Remington 700, in a .416 for many years and have taken quite a few critters with it, to me, why buy anything else! I would recomend this rifle to anyone that wants to kill dangerous game!

I have a 416 rem mag in a model 70 express .It blew off a little part of the bolt when I first fired it.I guess it was just a small extra part because I have shot it 1600 times. The Ruger is 10 times the rifle ad the winchester. The winchester is alright but their workmanship sucks along with service.I tried to get my gun fixed they said it was normal for that small piece to come off.

If you have to have a .416rem, then pick up a used M70 in .375 or .458 or a CZ & rebarrel. I built my .404jeffery on a M70 I don't see why you can't build a .416rem. Nothing wrong w/ the Ruger RSM either, a rebore of a .375h&h is possible & feasable. A ground up rifle w/ a Montana action would be the most expensive way to go, but it ccould be a great rifle.

As a Model 70 AND a Ruger RSM in 416 Owner , I take exception to the quote above. Yes I had some "slight" tuning done to my Ruger, but "slight" is the operative word it feeds EVERYTHING reliably, INCLUDING the North Fork Cup points and flat points which is a LOT more tahn I can say for the last crop of Winchesters I looked at. jorge

Have yet to hear of a PH packing a Ruger. FN's, BRNO's and lots of Winchesters though. Not saying they're aren't any, just have yet to see or hear of one.

I believe that Buzz Charlton in Zimbabwe uses a Ruger in .416 Rigby while elephant hunting.

Others that have hunted with him might know for sure.

Most PH's don't carry Rugers because they cost twice what the CZ's, BRNO's, and mausers cost in Africa.
