Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Eventually, I'd still want to book a long DG hunt in Africa.

I sure would hunt India if it were possible. To me it seems quite unique in the diversity of big game wildlife found there. Almost like Africa, but in Asia. And like Africa there must be very high quality habitat to support and sustain such wildlife diversity. I don't see mention in Naki's post but there are even species of Bear ( similar to Black Bear ) in India.
Admittedly my thoughts are pre-biased as one of my grandfathers was born in India. He was a hunter from an early age. I don't think he ever hunted big game there but I remember his misty eyed stories of fabulous bird shooting.

I never hunted DG in Africa. Only birds & warthog.

I just put that there for perspective.

DG in India includes tiger, Leopard, Wild buffalo (more aggressive than cape buffalo). You could categorise the sloth bear as DG.

30'06King - you are right - Left out Himalayan black bear, sloth bear and Himalayan brown bear

Nothing is better than hunting in Africa. Alaska does not come close. The only way to improve the African experience is to bring someone special along. Such as Stormy Daniels. That would make for a fun night. Errrr, I mean (at my age) a fun five minutes.

I am very old school when it comes to hunting. I've never done the high end hunts.

I just love the basics of the wilderness, the bush, the dust, the rain, the sounds. Wild game. Crashing and flushing game that you do not see but it sends your heart racing. Seeing wild game after a hard walk.

Sharing a camp with good mates. Cooking on a camp fire. All the yarning and the stories afterwards. The rifles & guns .....

Yes the hunt itself. Sure.

While I hunted a bit in India and shot a few muntjack, the experience of walking for 2 days into very remote areas is the highlight. That was in 1975-76. In more recent years it was seeing tiger and leopard in the wild (vehicle safaris).

I was thinking TIGER.

But ultimately, the sheer variety of African DG (different species and areas) has me questioning whether anything could top African DG.

Maybe pulling a Corbett and hunting a man-eating tiger....
