With sketchy internet I sit outside a vacant Africa Parks office hoping for a lift out of here tomorrow. It is dusk and myriads of birds are calling it a day. I pinched a bottle of good 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon from camp which appears to be corked but it will do.

A sad twist of fate sent my mate away from this place and now I am blue. It was only yesterday when exhausted and filthy from tailing buffalo we both agreed in unison that this is why we hunt. We were elated with the days pursuits and at one time Faisal was on the sticks looking up at an extremely impressive bull. The buffalo here in Bangweulu swamps are truly massive in statue and horn. The largest that we had ever come across. Two younger bulls were well in advance of 45 inches and one maybe 48. Both were a tad soft and we let them be. We had planned to return early morn.

The operator African Parks are only selling one buff a year and I had snapped it up for Faisal in return for inviting me to Benin earlier in the year.

As the charter whisked Faisal away to Lusaka I thought to change the license in my name and go back and take on the big boys we had left behind. But being depressed about Faisal's tragic circumstances I was some what deflated. Besides someone else might want this opportunity and then Faisal could recover some of his losses.

Family is always priority and at this moment I now yearn for mine.

Andrew

Are there any numbers of buff in the swamps or just the odd dugga boys?

They estimate 250 odd and we came across a herd of 30. They are absolute brutes.

There should/could be a lot more buffalo. I'm sure wildlife in general will increase under the watch of African Parks.

Andrew I'm sure your family misses you as well. Did Ryan arrive at college without any incident?
