I used South Texas Fur Dressers X6 with Well Worldwide doing the legal work. Very pleased with both.

Already I was beginning to fall into the African way of thinking: That if
you properly respect what you are after, and shoot it cleanly and on
the animal's terrain, if you imprison in your mind all the wonder of the
day from sky to smell to breeze to flowers—then you have not merely
killed an animal. You have lent immortality to a beast you have killed
because you loved him and wanted him forever so that you could always
recapture the day - Robert Ruark

Just had a buddy get his buffalo skull, cape and scrotum from Zim last year. Over $800 dollars charged by Coppersmith to clear for him. He already paid the dip, pack and shipping which was over $1000. If I remember the crate was listed as something around 60 kilos. For a buff skull, skin and nuts!!! Unbelievable. No wonder guys are not bringing anything home or just not going at all.

That seems outrageous to me.
I've been quoted $640 to clear a kudu head, Gemsbok head and zebra hide. and that seemed high to me. Of course i'll also get nicked for export fees and shipping. I'm leaning toward having the taxidermy done in RSA thereby saving at least dip and pack. Also the quotes I have for two skull mounts and the zebra rug are competitive.

LawDog,

If you decide to have your taxidermy done in South Africa, you might consider Splitting Image Taxidermy. I had 13 animals done there, three of them were pedestal mounts. It was one helleva lot of weight as the crating was done extremely well. They shipped the whole deal in three crates and it cost me 2,700.00 shipping to my door in La Luz, New Mexico. They were shipped by sea. It took a little longer, but I cannot even think how much it would cost by air freight. If you like you can call me at 575-439-5015 if you would like the details.
