I have seen that many use the Leupold 2.5-8 x36. Why is this? Are they especialy durable?

If it is for a DSGR make sure that it mounted with a detachable mount like EAW pivot or something in that department.
I have a leupold 1,5-5 variXIII but would like the svarowski 1,25-4
I only have a scope on my DGR so I can take other game with it on a longer range that I plan to hunt DG on.

My .404 wears a Leup. 1.5x5. Anything much over 5x is probably more scope than you need & eye relief suffers. After all, it's a DG rifle, your shots aren't going to be much over 100yds.

Most important long eye relief so you do not get a permanent eye ring...DG is supposed to be shot at close range and nothing is dangerous at 100yds..IMO...I have a 1.5/5x VariXIII on my 458 Lott and it is more than adequate.. Mike

By DGR do you mean for lion and leopard? In that case, I think a 2.5-8 would be great. Same for hippo in the water.

But for buffalo and elephant, I would go with a 1.5-5 or 1.76-6 for calibers up to .416. For .458 and above, I would stick to a Leupold 2.5x compact because they have a really short eyepiece and won't hit you in the forehead.

This time I plan to try out irons only. To be honest, I felt the scope was a disadvantage.

what about the Ruger RSM rifles, is there a way to make the scope quick release on these or are you stuck with the Ruger ring setup

CC, Warne & I beleive some others make lever rings for the Ruger rifles.

If it's .458 lott or greater I would reccomend the 2.5x compact leupold for it's ability to handle recoil.

I have Warne QR mounts of my Ruger 458 Lott..They are working super..

It is a great scope but for most DGRs it is more scope than the caliber can handle from a trajectory standpoint..I also am a fan of the 1.5x5X Leupold on the real big bores above .375 caliber, and I could get by with that scope on any rifle and never look back...

My friend Saeed uses a 2.5x8 Leupold on his 375-404 Wildcat, but hey with a 250,270 gr. bullet that gun shoots as flat as a .270 Win or 25-06, so its a great scope for such calibers...

I have a 2.5x8X on my 300 H&H and a 2x7 on my .308..but I could get by just fine with a 4x on every gun I own and never look back...

I have a set Warne detachable for the Ruger No 1. Honestly, I think they look pretty awkward on the rifle. They seem overly "chunky" where the don't need to be. Part of that may be do to the fact that they are mounted on a barrel rib on the Ruger No 1. The mount overhangs the rib considerably. I am getting rid of mine and going back to Ruger's.
