Are you actually a judge or is that a handle? Just curious as a friend of mine just retired form the bench. He was a Supreme Court Justice in the state of Nevada. What a super nice fellow.

That is really a great looking stock! [The basic wood looks OK, as do the laminates - but - the upgrade wood is awesome.]

Regarding cross bolts - I spoke with CZUSA at the SHOT show yesterday and they assured me that the stock has been "beefed up" enough to take the Lott. There are two barrel lugs and the action lug. The stock does "look" beefy but I don't really know what to look for.

Regarding availability- they noted that the first batch of rifles were all shipped or committed already. [somewhere in the conversation I got the idea that this amounts to +/- 50 rifles, and they were expecting the next batch in the very near future. They are all rechambered from .458WinMag to .458Lott somewhere in Missouri - then the next batch will be shipped so " a couple of months" they said.

I had to go make money to pay for the rifle and couldn't say more when I first posted, sorry!



The rifle is the regular Safari action, formerly in .458 Win Mag, that XXX'ed out and stamped Lott. Not particularly distracting. The action needs smoothing. It has the two position safety, but I'll buy a three position one from CZ-USA for $70, I think. It's a drop in change. I'll also get a trigger from whomever to replace the standard CZ "set" model. I just don't like them on a DGR. The stock was a $400 option, in my small mind, a real bargin.



Problems on my rifle.

1. It has a regular forend swivel. It's way down from where I normally hold my left hand, but having "kissed" one in the past, I will fill that hole with a decorative screw and have a barrel band put on.



2. Action needs polishing/smoothing... nothing that a lot of opening and closing wouldn't fix, but with the rest of the work I'm having done, why not have an expert do it.



3. It has the normal heavily imprinted CZ ads on the action... nothing some good metal work can't help (along with fixing the XXX'ed out Win. Mag... but re-bluing will be necessary



4. Checkering is not up to par with the beauty of the wood. It ain't bad, but obviously, a stock of such beauty should have first grade checkering, so that's some expense.



5. If you're going to re-checker.. why not take of the sprayed on finish and hand rub...



6. The rifle seems to be bedded o.k.. but with this stock, I'm going to get cross-bolts installed.. why ruin a AAA stock that would cost 2K from Dakota?



All in all the gun is a very practical firearm. If I had bought the cheaper "standard" stock, I'd probalby have the action smoothed, an Uncle Mike's barrel band put on, and leave it at that, but with beauty, comes obligations! I paid about 1K for the gun... I'll spend another 1K on it.. gladly. It will be my finest rifle when I finish.. If you don't count the M/S in .375 Rimless, or the Coggie in .375 Flanged, or the Kerner 9.3x62 FS... or....

BTW, the target that comes with it was less than 3/4". But who wants to bench rest the thing???

I tried to buy one from my wholesaler and they are listed as " Allocated " ! That really was a pisser to say the least.

From the sound of it, another trip up here to visit Roger Ferrell is in the making.

I was at his shop the other day (I took Mbogo375's 416 Rigby in for the same treatment he gave your .375), and I looked closely at a lot of his work. My goodness, this guy is good! I've got my FN .375 H&H in there now having a set of express sights installed. I'm half tempted to let him rebarrel, or at least re-ream my 404, but I've got it shooting pretty good right now and don't want to mess with success.
