Burkina Faso Second on the list behind savannah buff will be roan antelope. I assume secondary growth would be the number one indicator of an old bull. Can anyone give me some more pointers? I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.

Old worn down Roan. Lion kill Benin. Exceptional Roan Zambia. Heavy and very large bodied. Zambia Large specimen Luangwa Valley Do not look for secondary growth and rather the weight of horn and ensure your animal has a penile button. Do not rely on your tracker's advise. Sure hope you intend writing up a hunt report on your upcoming Roan hunt when you return.I haven't hunted one but I have spent time in their company and they looked to be a great challenge. Good luck.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. Fujotupu knows where I'm going and he knows what he is talking about. (Not saying anyone else doesn't). You all know more about roan than I do. In two weeks last time there, we contacted roan exactly four times. Now to be fair, we were stretched hunting elephant, leopard and buffalo X2, plus sable and were successful on all that. But of the roan encounters, two were groups of females. One was nixed because he was very close to an active leopard bait. And the fourth, I couldn't catch because I was too fat and out of shape in rocky country that Fujo knows well. Roan will be a challenge. And a defassa waterbuck; maybe not so much.
