Seems there has been a new Euro amendment relating to travel with ammunition that TAP (Portugal) at least are now following.

According to their website TAP will no longer accept any ammunition whatsoever for travel. Firearms are fine but not ammo. (How daft is that).

As it's a Euro amendment, I'd guess that an increasing number of airlines will adopt this rule.

Therefore I strongly suggest anyone travelling from or through Europe get a written statement from their airline that they will accept firearms AND ammo for travel and take that document with them on their journey.

I hunt exclusively with handguns, so I gave up travelling through Europe on the way to Africa decades ago.

It's no great loss, I'd rather not spend my money with those leftist schmucks in any case.

When you get bored with life, start hunting dangerous game with a handgun.

I suppose we should understand that these airlines with their "huge profits" do not need to fill all their seats. Jackasses. Cool

Hopefully this issue stays localized or is amended. If this spread to other airlines it sure could put a damper on hunts for those that like to use wildcats and/or obscure calibers.

Don't hold your breath..... if it's a Euro amendment, I'll bet a pound to a pinch of the brown stuff that all the other European airlines will adopt it fairly quickly. Roll Eyes

Its a EU guideline/regulation, COMMISSION REGULATION (EU) No 185/2010, which came into effect in 29th April (unless there is a newer one). However its also written into it, that individual member states may grant exceptions if they wish. (I do have the file but its a little of 1mb and no place to host it.)
For example, the Norwegian CAA made it clear even before the guideline applies to us, that they would continue with the same procedure as before. Up to 5kg of ammo for lawful purposes.
Its also my understanding that the majority of European countries have granted this exception.
At least the following: Finland, Norway, UK, Italy, Denmark.

Also the IPSC European Handgun Championship was help in September in Serbia and I haven't heard of any problems, beyond the 5kg limit being too small....
