it isn't the daily rate, it isn't the trophy fees, nor the airfare, rather it is the Mercedes you have to buy your wife to get the green light.

oh well... at least I get to go to Africa. Of course now I only get to shoot impala.

Don't have to buy her anything as she loves Africa as much as I do. I did interview her for five years before we got married so that there would be no false expectations.

You guys just need to learn how to use the arbitrage opportunity available with the Mercedes. Buy her something like a CLK350 (around $30,000 used) and switch the 3 to a 5 - you now just bought her a CLK550 (around $50,000). Now, assuming if you buy her a $50,000 car you get to spend $50,000 on a hunting trip, you can now book a hunting trip worth $70,000 (the difference of $100K-$30K).

*Disclaimer: Hide all your receipts!*

Ain't it the truth (not that it applies to me, I might add). I had a good friend who was very well heeled, details shall be deliberately vague, who had a "mid-life" crisis and hooked up with a younger and faster model (in both sense of the word)......after a few months of hiding and sneaking, he decided that he just was going to shed the old one and get the new one......told his wife and went and spent about 10 minutes with his lawyer who advised him to consult with his CPA.....spent about an hour with his CPA and decided the current wife was fine for his needs.......it DID, in fact, cost him a new Mercedes and god knows how much domestic non-bliss to get back home. Like the old joke, he didn't plan on spending what a divorce would cost.

I guess you have to find the right one. She gave me check for a Army&Navy double when we found one at a gun show. She was with me when I bought the safari I'm going on in October. When we were in Reno this year she had another check for a Francotti 10.75x68. I could go on. And when i buy a new keg for the tapper she even helps me carry up the stairs.

I think you have the right idea. Now I just need to find a nice Alaskan girl how loves to hunt and fish as much as I do.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

I doubt it is a joke, in this day and age nothing suprises me when it comes to weddings. I live in rural Pa and a fellow I know spent one years salary (his and his wife) on his daughters wedding and guess what - hepled pay for the divorce 6 months later hum. I can't find a better definition of STUPID!

Eric - Did I mention the wedding will take place in Kalifornia? Seriously, it's true. My wife and daughter think this is the most enjoyable way to spend money since they discovered designer purses. Heck, the missus and I were married 23 short years ago and I'm not altogether certain we even had a reception...but I know there was no "candy bar." Then it was off to our mini-pickup with no air conditioning to enjoy our honeymoon; a drive from Florida to Colorado in June. We lived for Friday nights when the local burger joint had 25-cent hamburgers, a welcome change from Ramen noodles and spaghetti.

Ahh, the things a father will do for his only daughter. Roll Eyes

Damn, Matt - not only do we need to go shooting soon, but we need to go DRINKING soon as well. We'll bring my wife - she's a foul-mouthed, gun-toting, hard drinking woman who knows the value of a dollar Smiler

Hell, reading this reminded me of our wedding 20 years ago - got married in the hotel I worked at by my manager, a Justice of the Peace, the reception was mixed nuts, punch I made, and a wedding cake my wife baked. She wore a $10 K-mart special white dress, and our honeymoon was a one-night free stay at a Marriott hotel nearby. My sister's wedding cost $25,000 and she got divorced 18 months later. WTF?

Eric -- If your wife accompanied you on your Namibian hunt we definitely need to have you two over for dinner for propaganda purposes.

We had a lovely dinner a couple months back with Mike (retreever), his lovely wife Sherry, his dad and his dad's girlfriend. Through prior arrangement, Sherry's mission was to sell my missus on the experience...without any mention of snakes. As far as my bride is concerned, there are NO snakes in Africa. Oh yes, and every accomodation was like a spa/hotel, right,...with chocolates on the pillows. Did I mention there were no snakes?

My wife is in the middle of a complete kitchen remodeling project as a result of previous trips and in anticipation of another one or two to come. Oh, and did I mention her girl trips to the beacch and the trip to Chicago just last week. And then there is the trip to Germany coming up in 2010. Oh well at least I get to go to Germany with her, but I would really rather go back to the dark continent. Maybe I will work in a hunt of some type in Germany.
